I get nervous really easily especially when doing presentations or even raising my hand to speak in class. Sometimes it gets bad to the point where my voice starts shaking and stuttering and I blank out. I'm trying to do more presentations to get used to them and just taking deep breaths. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. How do you deal with nervousness?

LOL i know what you mean...especially when it's before a business presentation...but i will always tell myself not to be too stress about it...if it's never meant to be, then so be it. i will keep on practising before the presentation so that i can go through the whole thing flawlessly. During the presentation, i will try to always have a smile on my face and i will be the 'actress', showing them that i'm very confident with my presentation and that i know what i'm talking about.

Thanks for the advice! I usually run through my presentations a bit before I present, but I guess I should really practice everything I want to say a few days before.

Hi Lyrica! I have the same exact problem as yours. I can say sometimes "Starting trouble" and I am nervous in presentations. Sometimes afterawhile I really do good but most of the time I am really nervous. So I am also waiting for a good response.

i also used to feel that way, i even feel dizzy and wanted to puke for a couple of times. then i force myself in taking a major that needed me to talk in front of the audience for several times. at first i hated being in front of the class. but when time goes by, i feel that it's just a piece of cake, just think that they are not really paying attention to what you are saying, their eyes are staring, but actually they're day dreaming.. lol

i can sometimes have the same feelings, doing prsentations at school is quite nervy because you are under the pressure from both teachers and class mates, but the way i deal with it is, just inside my head keep saying you will do well and basically just be confident

Drink a glass of cold water before you start your presentation.

I deal with being nervous by trying to remember that almost all of us feel the same way and people do understand. Sometimes I vocalize it out loud and say to people you know what I'm really nervous, and that in itself will usually help as the response is almost always positive. Good luck!!!

i do have the same feeling as you have. i am a reserved and conservative guy and friends say i am just too traditional to have a girlfriend.I think we maybe born shy but our character can be changed only if we have the will to do it .

You ever knew someone was trying to sneak up on you, and so you begin to wait and wait, and as you wait, your hear-rate builds and BOO!! You jump unwillingly? Well, whether or not you've experienced this, this is very similar to your "nervous" problem with speaking in front of people. I've discovered that it's not at all "nervousness" as we call it. It's simply your body's response to your mind knowing that something is coming. Another reason it happens is because unlike in your normal calm state in conversation, your brain and mind have lots and lots of conflict. Here's how: when you are speaking with a friend or just one person or a few friends, your brain's doing most of the conversational work, while your mind just thinks about going to the bathroom, [laugh]...However, when you are giving a report, your mind 'realizes' coming conditions, and creates stressful environments that your brain quickly responds to and tries to quickly calculate things and work them out for you. BUT...you continue thinking and thinking more and more about arriving conditions, and you begin focusing on things that you'd normally let your brain control without thought. Your heart rate, your breathing, your body language, your mental preparation, your arm pits, your voice, so many things. It's your mind trying to take over your brain's hard work. Very interesting thought, you think? (if I didn't lose you ^^") Multitasking people say they can multitask, but little do they know, it's not the control of their thinking it's the brain doing so many things at once. The mind can only focus on ONE task at a time, but it can quickly SWITCH between them. This is how people can do complex things while just having a conversation. Such as driving and talking on the phone. The problem comes though, when the person actually INTERFERES with the brain working, by beginning to take over the driving again, thus having that brief cut in the task, which causes that brief moment of confusion about where they are and where they're going [laugh]..... I hate it so so so so much, that even I, though I explain this to you, still have the same problem. You are not nervous. You are just thinking about the wrong things at the wrong time. How to you stop it, well, you need to try and think about things that are interesting or funny to you. Think about one or some of your classmates in a funny way, or better yet, think outside the class. Forget what's happening in class (or wherever) and think about another place and time. Create conditions in your MIND that keep your mind from getting in the way of your brain. After writing this [laugh]...I think I'm gonna try this from now on.
