My dearest cat Buttons is currently in the animal hospital due to kidney stone obstruction and kidney infection, the vet seems hopefull. I wish i could say i feel the same having lost a cat a year and a half ago to kidney failure i feel like history is repeating itself..Could any cat lover and owner out there let me know if your fur balls have ever suffered from this and what the out come has been. Many thanks

I have had a couple of cats with bladder stones. The vet put them on a special diet - a diet low in ash content. The special diet is fine for all the cats in the house. Bladder stones are something that all male cats are prone to, so I feed all my cats the prescription diet from the vet.
I hope your baby gets better soon. I know what it is like to have one of your lovable fur balls at the vet.

Awww thank you so much, yes we have prescription diet other here and the vet was explaining earlier that if my baby buttons as i call the furry lump, recovers, the next step will be the diet. Thank you for your warm wishes. I will leave a post in this discussion on his progress tomorrow when i know how he is and the outcome

My cat had this problem- it was very bad, because it happened more than twice in the same week. The first time, they performed an emergency surgery to clear his urinary tract and it was $700. The second time, they performed a procedure to change him into a girl since girl cats to not have these blockage problems. That cost nearly $4000 when it was all done- Yikes! But I love my kitty, and a year later he is still okay after the second surgery.

My cat Cheetah had bladder stones but maybe her story will be helpful to you. In 2002 she had bladder stones which caused her to keep running to the litterbox because she kept feeling she had to go. She also has a heart problem which causes her to have high blood pressure which is under control with her medication. I was very nervous when she went in for the surgery to remove the stones but she came through it. They kept her at the vet for 2 days to make sure she was okay and then sent her home with medication. They wanted to put her on a special diet but with 4 other cats it was impossible so they told me just make sure she drinks enough liquids.
Today, she is still doing fine and it's almost 5 years later.
I have had other cats that had kidney failure and I know how you feel, but stones are not the same thing.
Is the vet going to operate to remove the stones?
I will keep your Buttons in my prayers and hope everything turns out well.

Ahh cheetah thank you so much for your reply it has made me feel a lot better, i have just got off the phone to the vet who says he is still very weak, and has only managed to go to the toilet a little, which is still very worrying, he has'nt mentioned an operation but he did say tonight that if no better tomorrow they will take blood tests and i think he is hoping to blast the stones if possible,he is on strong antibitics and anti-inflamatries alone with medicine to disolve the stones and he was going to see if Buttons would eat something. He also did tell me that if Buttons makes a good recovery he would need a special diet but like you i have another 2 cats (both quiet old now and dont think they would be to impressed with a change in diet) Buttons is my baby, he's a micky mouse looking persian, i love all my cats the same but he it is special. This will be the second night this week without him he stayed at the vets, tuesday, got him back last night all to rush him back in this morning, i feel like a lost soul, i know he is in good hands and i know that if there was'nt any hope the vet would not be trying his hardest. the vet has tried his hardest to explain to me that kidney obstutction and infection is totally different to kidney failure which as we know is not treatable, but i just feel like am going through a da ja ve (or however u spell it) LOL think tiredness is kicking in must of only slept 3 hour in 3 days. I will keep you posted on his update tomorrow and thank you ever so much for your lovely reply. Please give all your cats a hug from me and especially Cheetah, he sounds like a fighter bless his soul. xx
