Hi! I have been interested in having a reef tank. I read an article in FAMA magazine that sometimes live rock contains organisms that are bioflourescent and you can see them in the dark at night. I think that would be so awesome! Does anyone here have any experience with reef tanks? I'd love to learn more! Thanks! :-)

Sorry I don't have any experience but that sounds really cool!
I'd like to learn more about this also!
Thanks for starting this discussion, I had no idea those types of tanks existed!

Hi! You're welcome. I just learned that it's possible to see the bioflourescent creatures in one's reef tank at home, too. If you are interested in learning more, Fresh Water and Marine Aquarium Magazine is an excellent resource. I'm always watching for the next issue! LOL I think you can read it online for free at www.famamagazine.com It's always awesome to read - lots of great information and beautiful pictures, too. :-)

While I don't have a reef tank I do admire the one at our local pet shop we frequent and I can verify there are some flourescent reefs out there. I'm not sure what the care for these types is versus regular coral, etc. but I know they are quite beautiful. I'm sure the place you purchase your reef from will be able to help you get your tank prepared and hopefully maintained. I know the local shop here is great at helping out with information.

Hi! Well, my local pet store here didn't have anything good to say about starting a reef tank. They said it would be hard to get the rock going after long shipping times, etc. I think I would have to order it online and get overnight delivery. That would be fine, I know of an excellent place - thatfishplace.com - and they offer lots of interesting fish, invertebrates, live rock, and such, and they have marine biologists on staff, so I think that would be a good place to order the rock from.
I think it would be so awesome to see those little flourescent creatures swimming around at night. I hope I get a chance one day to set one up. :-)
