I can't imagine not having my friends in my life. I am happily married and first and foremost my husband is my best friend. As I've got older my mum is someone I can relate to as a friend, I love going on holiday with her and spending time with her just chatting about when she was young and how she dealt with issues that came in when she first got married.
I have close friends who I don't see regularly, I might see them every few months or less than that but when we meet each other we can chat for hours as if it was only yesterday that we met. I have other friends who I see regularly who are my social friends, not my best friends but people I enjoy spending time with and who live close by to me. Then I also have friends I have made through work, both past and present. These are people I have a lot of things in common with and the past colleagues keep me up to date with how people that I used to work with are doing in life and at work and the present colleagues I am happy to socialise with too.
Good friends are there for you when you need them, whether they come to your house at the drop of a hat, or sit and talk to you on the phone for hours or are thousands of miles away in another country and send you long emails to make you smile and cheer you up when you're feeling down. We all need friends in our lives and those who say they don't need them must surely be lonely deep down even if they won't admit it to themselves.
