Which is neater, your desk or your computer?

This may seem like a strange question to some but I realized something today. My desk is a mess! What is worse is now I have a laptop computer I have moved into my bedroom and it is begining to look like my desk - and my bedroom is most always the neatest room in the house.
At the same time, my computer is very well organized. Files for everything and everything in it's place.
Which is neater for you? Are you a generally organized person? Do you have any tricks for staying organized? Besides stop being so lazy:)

Ha
I like the question. My answer is my desk..cause I do not have one.I use my ktichen table as my work place. And since I have a family of 5, I need to clean it off at lteast 3 times a day to eat! And my computer....well it is a lap top, held together with tape! Yes, duck tape. It looks horrible, but it works. So, I guess my computer is messier than the desk.
Thanks for the great question, made me ponder my computer situation! JO

Ah ah the great fixer - "duck/duct tape" it never fails to amaze me the things people can find to use it for. I panic if I can't find mine :)

hahaha, My husband and i have a discussion on organization at least once a week. I wish i could help you. I, myself, have asked God to help me become more organized. My kitchen is neat, my bathroom is neat, my bedroom is neat, my computer desk is in the livingroom~ looks like it was hit by a tornado! I try to arrange it and two days later its the same. All 5 members of my family use this area. So you can imagine how hard it must be to keep it clean.
Good luck. I will keep comming back to this to see if i can get some tips, too!

I used to be the most organized person on earth. Then came the internet. I would much rather spend time on the internet and places like myLot than to tidy the house or clean my desk! I am a college professor so there are stacks of papers that need to be graded all over my desk. There are also books, notes, bills and everything imaginable. The files on my computer however neatly organzied! I can get to anything within seconds. Funny how that works huh? I had never thought about it that way! Tricks for staying organized? I'm afraid I would have to call my internet service provider and have my service cancelled in order to ever be neat again!

I think we should blame it on the intenet too. It is all the WWW fault.

That's it, it's the Internet's fault. Humm, ISP, I've been with the same one for nearly 8 years - maybe they should provide "desk organizing" along with their service, come to my house and clean up my mess.

I have an amaire (spelling?) for my computer. On the inside of the doors I glued cork. I now just tack my notes to the cork board. When the door is shut, you can not see the notes. When I open the door, they are easliy accessed. It has made it so much neater and less cluttered. Before I had the cork, I had sticky notes everywhere. They would fall and I would loose my info and it was a mess. I now have a little dish with thumb tacks in it. I have another one with paperclips and pens, pencils, glue stick and sissors in it.

Now that's an idea - cork board. I have one in my kitchen but it's used for "menues" all the pizza places that deliver! We also stick coupons for pizza places there. "Post-Its" are one of my problems I love them but they really do not stick secure enough or long enough.

You can buy cork in a roll at lowes or home depot. It does not cost very much. YOu just unroll it and glue it on whatever you want it on. Or you can tack it but glue works great on the inside of my computer cabinet door. I cant really remember what I paid for the roll but seems like it was less than $5.00 and I did not use near all of it.

I am slowly doing this myself but there are still things that end up on my desk - they seem to appear out of nowhere.

Both are pretty neat actually. The files on my computer are pretty organized and I usually can find everything I need too within a few seconds. My desk is rather organized too, everything in it's place. Except for a few of my desk drawers. Those are pretty packed but I really can't do anything about that.

LOL - my desk is ALWAYS a mess at home ... I just seem to accumulate crap on the desk, around the desk and in the desk!!
Although when i'm at work i usually manage to keep that one tidy. I'm thinking it's 'cos i give that one a big tidy before i go to lunch and at the end of the day ... but i'm not sure.
My computer is organised so that i know where things are but i still have a lot of files that just sit in the my documents section with no home. At least if i can't find stuff on the PC i can always do a search and let it do the hard work for me!!

My desk sits in a room ontop which my computer sits. My computer is definitely more organized. Due to the fact that I store things in files in the computer. In the room where it sits there are boxes of papers that sit in the corner and those are receipts and paperwork that I feel I need to keep. I think I have acquired my mom's habits. She is a pack rat and can't stand to throw anything away. I am the same way but not quite as bad. But back to your question and I would definitely have to say my computer is more well organized.

Pepsi can., Sims games. I could go on and on. lol. My computer at least has files and folders to put stuff in. Wonder if i should get a Candy bar wrapper folder? lol

Ok, now you've got me thinking - except for the Pepsi can, that brings back memories - only I would create a web page when I kill my keyboard!

Haha this is such an interesting question! My computer is usually neater than my desk. Whenever I'm procrastinating, I always go through my files and organize them or delete them. That's hardly ever the case with my desk! If it gets unbearable to the point where I have no room to work, I'll just move the mess to my bed and then back again when I'm done. There are times when I just can't stand it anymore that my desk is neater than my computer but those times are few and far apart.

I have a computer desk that I bought a long time ago and I've tried to keep it clean but it's an absolute nightmare. It's a good thing that it is hidden behind the couch in our living room so that when people come to visit they can't see it unless of course they walk over to it.
I have to seriously get with it and clean up all the you-know-what on it and around it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention; perhaps I won't put it off any longer...lol

Oh, you are very welcome, when your done with yours you're more than welcome to come do mine.
Had a brain storm of an idea though, my daughter (21) has not been able to find a job and is always looking for ways to earn a few bucks - I'm going to pay her to come over and clean my whole office. Maybe I'll even go back to using it as an office rather than a "storage space".

I sure hope I didn't respond to this discussion alreay; can't remember as I've responded to so many already...I wrote to mylot suggesting that they may try to figure out a way so that we'd know if we'd responded to one or not...
It just takes forever to go through all the 'discussions replied to', if you have many...
I was so embarrassed today, as our friends that are moving to Maryland came over and I cleaned up the house because I knew they were coming...Well, the only thing I didn't clean was my computer area, and wouldn't you know it, Dave needed to use my computer and I had to straighten things up before he could use it...
Aargh..! That'll teach me...but you just never know...

I am so embarrased...! Our friends came over today; they sold their house and have a new one in Maryland already...They came over to say goodbye and I cooked them breakfast, as it would take them 10 hours to get home, once they left...
I had cleaned the house up because I knew they'd be over in the morning but I didn't straighten up my computer area; it's hidden behind our couch and unless you actually walk toward it, you'd never really see it...
Well, our friend needed to use my computer to look someting up with his mortgage, because they couldn't close for some reason and I was so embarrased...I ran over to straighten everything up...He didn't have to use it after all because he found the paperwork he needed but, still....
Lesson learned...I need to keep my area clean, just in case...lol

LOL - I never thought of that to occupy my time - searching for posts to make discussions reach a certain number... My desk is really really a mess now - I decided to rearrange my office yesterday afternoon and got about half way through the task of cleaning out papers when I ran out of energy... I can't believe I through out 3 garbage bags of papers only and the desk is still packed and a mess.

im generally an organised person. my desk may get a lil messy at times however i try to keep it in order to prevent losing things. my trick to staying organised is to remember that if u dont clean it now u'll have to clean it later and plus if u keep everything organised it'll b easier to find / understand.
i hope i answered u question.. if so, pls rate ! thanks ! =)
take care !!

I start out with that intention, do it now rather than later but for some reason something "more important" always seems to come up. I am going to try harder though.
