As I write this, my star is an 8. Thats not too bad at all, I am happy with it.
However after seeing numerous posts by people with 9 and 10 who write replies like "not... I am....". I am surprised why most people do not have tens.
One of my friends on here has a five, yet she gives awesome answers and asks good questions... Why does this happen???
OK, thats my ranting and raving for today... have a good one!

the rating system is controlled by the users on Mylot. I have friends who also have a Low star but that´s because they speak their mind and do not care what people think. this upsets many and cause them to press the - and the rating goes down!

It's annoying how shallow some people are... giving a - rating just for disagreeing... shameful... here's a + :) Thanks for your feedback!

Why should it annoy me.. anything that makes me laugh is good ;)Good to hear thats yoga working for you. I tried yoga once but took off for the mall halfway through class, as I had a sudden craving for a soft pretzel and world peace...

I no longer allow negativity in my posts.
I practice yoga before every post to clear my mind and cleanse my spirit. It takes me about 1 hour of preparation per post. You see, my current post number of 45 is very deceiving because I have actually been on mylot for years now.
My posts are so focused, rational, inspiring, and relevant, that I earn about $2.50/post. I wish I could explain it more clearly to others...but I am truly one with mylot.
Hey Comedy, if my stupid humor all over your threads annoys you, you better let me know. Cause this fountain of disruptiveness won't shut off by itself.

i also felt such thing .... i saw one discussion with a person having rating 10, the discussion was only one line question about liking or disling... i was amazed with putting up such things how they got these numbers.. i also oberve replies from rating 10, 9 8 or even 7 like one line stupid answer and when you see at the star it shows 10.... i almost like to cry.... because we put our effort to give responsible answer and people who only give one line stupid answer get ranking 10 or 9...!!

It is frustrating isn't it. As itsreallymefifty has said below, it really doesn't take much to set some people off, who then go around giving you negative feedbacks. I suppose the people who do one liners or less really get no enemies on here, yet they have a loyal friend following you give them + just because they can.
Thanks for you great reply. Here's a + :)

I don't think the rating is fair for some. If they tick someone off they can easily give you a ton of negs and bring your rate down. Also if people don't rate your posts or discussions that will keep it down.
I rate everytime, so I have your back :o)

It's amazaing how many narrow minded people there are on here that rate negatively just because they disagree with the other peoples POV...
Here, have a +!

Thanks for replying :). I think we all understand how the star system works, but I think we all wonder why some people have 9 and 10s for one word answers...

The trick then, to discourage one word/line responses, is to rate them negatively. They won't know why their stars are decreasing, since mylot hasn't deigned to put a "my worst responses" tab on our profiles, but maybe they'll get the picture. Fight fire with fire, as the maxim says.

I agree, I just will it was that simple. Without picking on any one race too much.. there are over a billion of them; if they wanted to gang up and give +'s, there is not a lot we could do.
But rating these responses with a - is all we can do. A worst response would be kind of good though.. thanks for the good ideas :) +

as i write this,my star is a seven,so i guess i'm on a lower pecking order than you! lol but as for the people with high ratings and a few line replies, its possible that they have made REALLY good posts in the past and you just happened to chance upon their posts which were written on a day when the thoughts werent pouring out as fluently as they normally would. notching up your star to a 9 or a 10 takes real hard work and effort (i know...i slogged my rear end to get to a lousy 7!!).i guess if they manage to retain their high stars inspite of lame stuff like 'dunno' or 'whatever',then lady luck must be favoring them a lot. or mebbe they are careful so as not to step on any toes. i too dont understand the ratings system that well and generally steer clear of the negative ratings button, for i wouldnt want to hurt someone just for being honest, even if their views border on being repugnant. mebbe your friend has inadvertently rubbed some people the worng way. and if her ratings have dropped cuz of that, thats really sad and deplorable for if we cant express our thoughts freely on internet, what places do we then turn to?

They should must be lucky.. I think they have so many friends the rate everything they say a + that our -'s don't really make a difference.. Here have a plus! Lets see if we can get you an 8!

we need to keep away from them sensitive or controversial discussions. Those that have 10s generally stick to the boring, simple questions where you are not likely to upset anyone, i dropped from being on the verge of a 10 down to this 8 where i've been stuck for ages because i started a discussion on climate change, that was a bad idea i think i upset a few people with my views.
P.S. I apologies for the terrible grammer, i seem to have an obsession with using commas today

I think you might have a point there, I remember the climate change one well, and even though I didn't agree with 100% of everything you were saying, I still rated you a + since you weren't a raving lunatic dreaming about your future bosses daughter then. lol...
(I think I just did the same thing. One long sentence broken up with heaps of commas, and it wasn't even intentional...)

Your rating will increase or decrease based on what other mylotters rate you. Most people don't even think to rate other users. I tend to rate almost everyone. Sometimes I forget, but I go back and rate again. Good luck with getting more ratings!

Too few people give ratings, and one user can easily push down your rating (Mine´s at 9, yet every flamewar goes down to 8, like the Chrsitians will go to hell and my agloco discussion)
I try and give everyone a + though.

I like my star as well although I did have a 10 a couple of weeks ago but now they have put my star rating down to a 7 and there are so many that do have a 9 or even 10 who I have also read their responses and they have a 10 or 9 and also their discussions are very small that I do not reply to them due to their do not put enough information to reply to. You have a great day as well

The reasons for high rating or a low rating depends on other members here. When a member rates you, your rating increas or get down.
Your friend has a low rating, because probably a lot of people didn't like her responses, and rate her '-'.

I'm not quite sure. I know there are a few factors that play into it. Lengths of posts and replies are important, one word answers or short answers are not ok. I think also how active you are is important. For example, how often you reply to posts and stuff. Also, if you start discussions you're more likely to recieve a higher star number, and I think posting pictures also can help you. And I mean posting pictures on certain interests, not personal pictures. I hope that this helps your friend and yourself.

I can empathize with how you guys feel about the dropping of ratings, and offending of certain bullies. If I were in the shoes of a victim who happened to stepped on the tail of a bully, I would have had my ratings dropped drastically as well. Sometimes, posting a different point of view, or opinion, will cause others, who are opposite our views, to feel offeneded, hence, sterotyping us as their opposition, and the only way to get back at us is to grade all our responses a negative.
That is how politics works. Back-stabbing, bad mouthing, decreasing one's reputation intentionally. Well, I hope that MyLot would be able to come up with a privacy viewing page. So that in the future, people would not get victimized by bullies who happened to drop by our profile, so as they could rate a negative in all our responses, without any justification why is was a bad post, what so ever.
At least what we could hope for now is hopping that we won't engage into sensitive issues that will offend, or deflect the opposite opinion, or certain petty users. Well, lets just be cautious a abit from now on.

I totally agree with you, although I can't stop thinking, where is the fun in only responding to "boring" discussions?? ;-)
I like the idea about the private page. Perhaps only friends should see all of our posts. At least you could removed unwanted friends..

I am still trying to figure out where and how the stars work. I am a bit too lazy to look it up. I just noticed I have a seven, not sure why. But I like the number seven so it's okay by me.

Yeah.. seven's not too bad. I think its based on the percentage of +'s vs -'s. So you are probably getting about 75% +'s.... :)

I don't get how they can do that, but it just goes to show that the mylot rating system is not a fair one by any means. I have seen people, like you who put time into their posts and never break the rules or insult that do not have a 10 while some one word repling jerk has one. I think there has to be a better way of rating.
