What is the best linux distro for a beginner?

I have an old PC and I'd like to learn Linux. According to you, what's the best distro for a beginner?

Old PC....hmmm...I think you should then use xubuntu. I haven't tried it yet but heard that it runs smoothly with an old PC but may not be that user friendly. My preference is opensuse, comes with lots of softwares, the best user interface, easy to use but requires at least 256 MB of RAM.
