Anyone have thoughts or insights about banning smoking throughout a city? Especially for public places like bars and restaurants?
We live in a small town that is a suburb of a larger city. The larger city has a smoking ban in place - no smoking in bars, restaurants, public places, etc. Now our local area is considering the ban as well.
We just moved into the state so we are just watching the debates right now. What do you think? Any personal experiences in your area?

I am a non smoker and the did put the ban up in our city. I wasn't sure how well it would go and many of the smaller bussiness' did try to appeal it and lost. I work in a casino and it has not affected us that much we still get our regulars and repeat out of towners. I have noticed since the ban went into affect that my daughter has not had to have as many breathing treatments. She is highly sensitive to smoke and just me walking through the casino area was enough to get on my clothes and her to react to it when cuddling (no I don't take her in the casino. But the less smoking I am exposed to at work the healthier she appears to get. Soooo If for that reason alone I am very happy the ban went through

That is a valid point. I don't understand how some people can make the claim that second-hand smoke does not affect others. Whether or not it is ok to have second-hand smoke is one issue, but I know some people that really insist that it can't affect the health of others, even those with asthma, allergies, or even more severe illnesses.
