This is another case where there is a product recall and thankfully neither of these brands are sold here in Australia pookie, so I can breathe easier. The reason for the delay in notifying people of the product recall could be because people have been affected in different areas, and so that information has to be collated. Then the authorities would need to narrow down what caused the problems. The common denominator would be the peanut butter, and hopefully that was the only one.
Then collect the jars those affected had and then test them. That might need a period of incubation to be sure that was the cause of the problem. If they put out a product recall without having all the facts, the manufacturer could sue them for an absolute fortune.
So, sometimes the delay is caused by what the authorities actually have to do to prove what is causing the problem in the first place.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. This is the first time I have ever in my life been glad my son doesn't like peanutbutter. Thank God I don't buy PeterPan anymore either.
On another note, my husband heard on prisonplanet.tv that the e-coli epidemics are being caused by illegal migrant workers contaminating our food with feces. An illegal was caught attempting this very atrocity while packaging chinese noodles.

Thanks a lot for the information. Perhaps that's caused by the long period of time that it's stored before consumption and the preservatives used. Better eat peanuts fresh or newly cooked.
