I was very depressed the past three days and today have definitely begun coming out of it. There was no apparent reason, like life circumstances, that caused my plummet into depression. That's almost always the case. It's like a switch that just turns off in my mind and I'm in the void, the dark, the desolate place where there is no hope. Coming out of it isn't like a switch, it's like a dimmer switch that slowly turns the light brighter and brighter then I'm out of it. How about your experience with depression? Does this sound familiar?

Yes it is dreadful when we sufer depression, but normally depression is not something that we are suffering from the last couple of days but of something that occured when we were youger and it is in the subconscience. I did suffer with depression for 25 years but I know what caused this and have dealt with my problem, you must know in yourself what has caused this to happen and work on it to get rid of it before it destroys your life, as when we are younger we can fight it off but it does get harder when we are older so the quicker you deal with the easier it will be for you.

what you are telling about , is not exactly depressin . the normal sadness we face in our day to day life is no depression. it has scientific basis. it has its own crieteria. this is not as simple to diagnose depression . you must contact a psychiatrist to resolve your problem or the definite diagnosis to be made.

Thanks for the reply. I have major depressive disorder, diagnosed professionally. I take 100mg of Zoloft daily and it helps considerably. Exercise and prayer also help take the edge off, but without the meds I'm a wreck. I know because I've tried a few times to try living without it. So I know that I have a chemical imbalance that the meds help to correct, but I also know from experience that I can help the process along with the aforementioned positive behaviors.

I have been through those same feeling in my life in the past but was able to overome it with the love and support of my friends and family and some counseling. I have learned how to deal with depression better and I know what to do to avoid feel depressed. I am glad to hear that you are coming out of your depression and hope that you will remain well. There does not always have to be a reason for one to get depressed as it could be triggered by anything.

This sounds very similar to my experience as well. I feel depression is something that has to be fought in little steps

well for me it is either on or off. I am depressed and don't want to do anything or I am a happy camper.
It is very rare that I go slowly from one to another. Have you told your doctor about this?

I can relate. I would suggest to anyone to watch the DVD - "The Secret" - it gives a good explanation of where depression comes from. You can watch some video of this at www.thesecretworldwide.com.
