My music is so valuable to me, I need to make sure I have secure and safe copies. I'd like to know your thoughts on the safest way to ensure you always have a backup if you lose what's on your hard drive. I have made back-up MP3s, but I worry about the quality of the CDs, as some of the first CDs I made are already starting to show signs of wear. What do you do?

I always back-up my music on external drive. I back-up all of my photos as well. I make CD only if I want to listen to music in my car.

That's the way I'm thinking of going. An external drive is an excellent idea, but I think I'd like my music and photos on a DVD as well. I couldn't bear to lose these memories, and I can look or listen downstairs on the TV.

I have backed most of my music on cds. It's best to buy good company blank cd's. The cds's of local made companies more often than not becomes unplayable after a few years or with use. I am saying this from personal experience. I buy only sony or moserbaer. If you are checking for free music just register in the site www.muchmusic.net. It is free.Regards

Thanks for the advice. My music is worth more to me than anything due to the happy memories it brings, and with the internet I've been able to get music from the fifties and sixties, so to trust cheap cd's to store this on is unrealistic. Thanks.

it's always better to backup your music on CD's or DVD's.But I prefer DVD's,coz it can store more. But then use good quality disc's and take good care of them.Never ever trust ur music to the computer hard disk..it's always vulnerable to getting formatted

I have always put my music onto a cd or dvd and use that as a master only then make other cd's to play and I also have a mini disc player that I play them on but I always have that master to fall back on and only gets used to copy from...

I buy albums. I like to have the artwork and the album as a whole.

Some of the music I'm refering to you won't find on albums. There are still many songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s I'm looking to download.
