Technically, exercising doesn't get rid of love handles. Exercising builds up the muscle underneath the fat, which makes it look more firm and not so flabby.
A good way to lose weight off your love handles is by dieting (not to an extreme). Try cutting down on fatty foods and eating more healthfully. Exercise will then help more because there won't be as many carbohydrates and protein calories to burn off, so the fat calories will be burnt off.
