Male cat, how to deal with the territory marking?

I'm thinking of getting a male cat in a few months but the few people I know with male cats have problems with the cat peeing on the doors and so on to mark its territory, are there any ways of getting around this? Are there any other things I should worry about from a male cat? I've only had 2 females that I don't have anymore.

Unfortunately there are no alternatives to a male cat spraying unless he is neutered, it is their instinct to do that. Where I live there are places where people with limited incomes can get low cost or free neutering or spaying. Why not call up a vet and explain your problem and see if they suggest something.

I doubt it, I'm already upset with my local SPCA as when my dogs lung collapsed all they could do was through prices and numbers at me even when I said I knew he was dying and didn't have the financial resources for what they were suggesting. They kept saying to call the vet it's 50€ to have the appointment so much, to treat the problem that much and medications are paid extra. I was literally crying on the phone and they didn't budge on prices. When I wrote them the next day my dog had already passed away and they said they never refuse a dying animal. I said what happened to me and all they did was say they'd never do that and that the lady must have said this and that, things she never suggested like the fact that they don't refuse a dying animal because of money, they still had the nerve to make me feel bad saying I must not have listened well or understood, I'm not stupid if I'd seen I could have my dog saved I would have heard it. I phones to know about having my female fixed and all they could say on the phone was prices to, it's 150€ to have her fixed plus appointments and medication is extra. I get so furious sometimes on all the hippocrasy. And to make things worse I had worked a few months there volunteering to help out, not a cent all the extras like gas, or bus tickets came out of my pocket I'd even take treats and donations like milk when I could even out of the time I volunteered.

i was told that the best way to keep a male cat from spraying is to neuter him. we had our cat neutered this past tuesday. i had it done through the humane society. they charged me a small fee and it was much less than a regular vet would have charged. it was done in one day. good luck with your kitty.

I have a male cat, and I love him. He is neutered. Neutering your male cat is a very smart decision. If you neuter him at about 5-6 months old, he will not spray or urinate outside his litter box. Also if you neuter him while he is 5/6 months old, he will not get that "male cat smell" which is actually a bad smell their urine has to attract their female counterparts. I think you should definitly get a male cat, they are the sweetest. I find them so much more friendly than the female cats I have had in the past. Just make sure you take him to the vet for all his shots, and get him neutered when the time is right.

I don't think I'll be able to afford that it's way to expensive here and they don't make it any easier on you, I don't have a job now so that makes things worse, the cat I'm going to get is of a friend of mine that's cat's pregnant, the dad won't have any kittens on their property for long, as he hates them, so I'm going to see about keeping one to help. I've had 2 female cats in the past and was going to get a male this time. If I earn enough from here I might consider getting him fixed or if I manage to get a job it's a possibility but until then I'll need alternatives to the territory marking.

Get him neutered b4 he reaches 6mo. of age. I've never had male cats spray after they are neutered.
