We adopted our Jefferson from the Humane Society because we didn't think we would have any children together. Both of us have teen children from previous marriages and Jeff was to be our baby that we thought we wouldn't be blessed with. Three months later, to our suprise, we found out that we were expecting our lil one. :) Of course Jeff is still our baby too and we love him dearly.

We bought our dog because we have horses and spend a lot of time on a friend's ranch. Our dog is an Australian Shepherd, which is a herding breed, so she works with the other dogs on the ranch to help herd and drive the cattle. Also, while researching this breed we found that they were good with children (we have two daughters) and very intelligent. So we chose her because we knew that she would fit into our lifestyle perfectly.

You know, it's funny because I probably never would have bought a dog in the first place, and now I have 3. I wouldn't trade them for the world though. I got my long-haired chihuahua because he used to belong to a friend of mine, and she had a baby who was allergic to dogs so she asked if I could take him. He's like my baby now. And then I met my now-husband, and he had two large dogs - one walker hound and one shepherd/chow mix, and they're both good dogs too.
