Does anyone out there know of places to submit ideas or manuscripts for a book of children's poetry?

The route i'm taking with my book right now is to self-publish it through www.lulu.com. I'm thinking that it's a good first step. It'll give you something tangible to present when you are at the stage to go to an actual publishing house.

i tried visiting that site once. does that mean that i really don't have to pay anything when they publish my work? They will only print the book upon an oder right? by the way, just want to insert a question, do i still own the right to submit my work to an actual publishing house after submitting the manuscript to them? thanks
