You say "my country" so i am assuming that you are South African. Cool. So am I, currently living in Cape Town although have lived in Johannesburg aswell. I love this country so so much but am at the same time, dying to get out and go and live in the USA or the UK. I cannot take the crime anymore. I should know, in my line of work, i deal with criminals aswell as victims of crime every single day and i am now so sick of it that i just want to get out. As you say, the country is so beautiful and it has so much to offer but the crime rate is just too high. Fact: MORE PEOPLE ARE MURDERED IN SOUTH AFRICA EACH DAY THAN ARE KILLED IN THE IRAQ WAR. When you think of that then you must realise that this is (another fact) the second most dangerous country to live in in the world.

I lived in South Africa in the 1970s in Germiston, a few miles from Johannasburg. It is a beautiful country with fantastic weather. We travelled to Durban where we stayed for three weeks on holiday, as it is semi tropical I found the heat overpowering. We also visited Swaziland a couple of times which was a great experience as it seemed more like the South Africa of the past times.
The standard of living was much higher and the living costs were much lower, I had a maid, a nanny, and a gardener so housework never interfered in my life, it was great.
I don't think I would like to live there now as since the change of goverment I think things have deteriorated if we can believe all we read in the newspapers. I am glad we had the experience but home is where the heart is.
