Well I doubt the Bears will go 13-3 or better next season. Especially with the coaching changes. But I do think the Bears will have a better record than 8-8

Why will they have a better record than 8-8? I mean how do you figure? Is it simply because of their record last year? I'd be surprised to see the Bears win every divisional game this year, but they must, just in order to reach 8-8. Their opponents average winning percentage for 2006 was 48%. 48%! No wonder they made it as far as they did. They won't be so lucky in 2007, they'll only face four opponents with that kind of winning percentage. They scrapped up a few skin of the teeth victories against the crappy teams, imagine what'll happen vs. bonafide playoff teams. Optimism and denial will be the Bears and their respective fans worst enemies.

Those were all very good, and valid points. But, the Bears biggest weakness is the sole reason why they will lose more games than they will win...Rex Grossman. He's terrible. What good are a crop of young, speedy receivers if Grossman can't hit them in stride? I think teams will concentrate upon this weakness and just stack eight guys in the box every down, and take away the run game, forcing Grossman to beat them. And that won't happen often. You're comments about guaranteed wins against division teams and Oakland couldn't be further from the truth. Oakland has an excellent defense, a hair shy of the Bears. That game will be low scoring and could easily go either way. And the Bears always struggle against Detroit and Green Bay. Sure, they took the first games against these teams and manhandled them, but the Bears definitely should have lost the second game vs. Detroit, and I forget what happened in the Packers second game. Although I think if Randy Moss does indeed go to Green Bay, look out! The Bears secondary is already suspect. Add a stellar QB, coupled with a couple of great receivers (Driver and Moss), and the Bears won't win any games vs. the Pack. All in all though, despite your slightly skewed delusions (all Bears fans have them...don't worry), you've made some good points, and you seem to know your football. This warranted a best response mark. FYI: My boys, the Lions, will shock the world and come out on top of the division next year. Martz won't fail two seasons in a row.

Okay so here is exactly why i believe the Bears will be better than .500. The first three home games are a piece of cake. The fourth game against Dallas can go either way. Dallas isn't as good as most people think they are. Plus Dallas has had its share of changes in the offseason. Don't forget that we did beat the Giants this season. And we will be playing at home. We also beat New Orleans in the playoffs in Soldier Field last season. Drew Brees still has to recover from his injury. Reggie Bush is still under investigation along with USC about the recruiting. And minor injuries like the one he suffered in the NBA All-Star Weekend won't help him. Also, McAllister isn't getting any younger. Denver had such a weak run at the playoffs last season. They lost five of the last seven games. At worst we'll go 2-1 for the first three away games, as you predicted. Don't forget McNabb has yet another obstacle he must face this offseason. Do you honestly think we are going to lose against the Redskins? They were 5-11 last season. The Redskins home record was 3-5, and none of those wins were by more than six points. We beat Seattle twice last season. That game could be won by either team. A win against Oakland is a sure thing. I wouldn't count out the Bears, when they face the Chargers. They might be able to take one of the two games. When i wrote the last comment i didn't just write it because i was in "denial" as a Bears fan. I wrote it because i was analyzing certain facts that maybe you were unaware of. I really do believe the Bears have a shot at a decent 2007-08 record.

When you say, 'we beat most of these teams this year,' by most, I would have to assume you mean the majority; however on the contrary, the 2006 Bears faced only six opponents they are slated to face in 2007, three of which were/are in their division. They did beat Seattle, barely, but a victory is a victory. They did beat New Orleans, although they did so under the most optimal weather conditions they could possibly get (chances are that won't happen next year), and they did beat N.Y. Giants (big deal). That leaves six opponents, all of which are better than every opponent the Bears faced in 2006. Couple that with the fact that if the Bears play N.O. on stable ground, and they face Seattle with both a healthy Alexander and Hassellbeck, and boy, the Bears got BIG problems. What kind of hope can the offseason possibly bring? They lost Rivera, have a bad draft position, will continue to rely upon and hype up a horrible qb, and plan to draft only offensive and defensive lineman. Explain just how exactly this offseason fares well for the Bears squad. The Bears will be in big trouble come September.

I'll tell you why the offseason fares well for the Bears. It's because the Bears have..... A head coach who doesn't care about money A kicker who is solid gold A feared kick/punt return man A group of excellent young WR's A set of RB's who offer different qualities at that position Damn good special teams The best defensive linemen in the NFL The best linebacker in the NFL But most of all...the best football fans in this world.
