I know, i was just reading it in the newspaper and it really got me thinking about how reckless most young drivers can be because they just want to be "cool" and not because they need to drive becuase they need to commute, run errands and such like adults.

I think 18 is just right! If your under the age of 16 your required to take driving school. So I think that's okay to. There are people from all age groups that are too immature and irrisponsible. the 16yr olds aren'tthe one's getting pulled over for DUI's!!!

I think they changed the age her in canada. My cousin who's twenty, went to write his test for his permit, and they asked him to show ID, which he had but not on him. As he thought the age to get a license was 16. When he asked them why he needed it, they told him for proof he was 19 years of age in order to write the test. He had to go get his ID from home.
Some people mostly teenagers do not like this idea, they think it is unfair. However Driving is a big respoinsiblity.
I I figure if at 16 they are not mature enough to drink, or vote...why let them drive a car?

At the time the driving age was 16 for me. I still ended up getting mine when i turned 18. Mostly because, with the immature mind i had, you couldn't drive with your friends or anyone under 18 unless you yourself were 18. And i think there was also a kerfue(sp) that if under 18 you couldn't drive anywhere after 8 or 9pm unless you had and adult 25 or older with you.

It has nothing to do with age, it's experience! If you change the driving age to 18 then all you've done is created a bunch of unexperienced 18 year old drivers. Most accidents will be caused by them. If you really want to cut down on the amount of teen driver accidents, require them to have more driving hours on their permit.

i think kids should get there license when they are 18. Only because they should pay attention to school first and then learn how to drive. When I was in high school, all my friends got there license like 15 and 16 and 17 years old. And there grades dropped because they use to ditch school and go jamba juice and starbucks and cruz around, so to me, after high school is a godo time to get your license.

With all the driver classes being offered now a days, I think some should be required to go through them before they just jump behind the wheel of a killing machine.

I think 16 is ok, but maybe a little immature, I really think 18 is better, it all depends on how responsible your child is. I mean your the parent anyway, if you don't think they are ready, then don't let them get one.

I think it should stay 16. There are a couple reasons for this. Public transportation in the majority of the US is absolutley awful. You can't really get around without a car and believe me parents do get tired of driving their kids around everywhere. It's actually a relief when their teen gets a license. However, I do think that driver's education should be stepped up. As of right now it's pretty much useless. Keep the driving age at 16 but make driver's education better so that young drivers aren't stereotyped as bad drivers.
