Email accounts

Do you have multiple email accounts? If so why? What do you do if you want to get rid of one? I have several -one for emails from friends and family, one for homeschooling related mail, one for online earning and sign ups. I have had most of them for years but now a few are getting tons of spam that they weren't getting before. I opened a new one for online earning/sign ups and am working on moving everything I want to keep over to the new one. Have any of you done this before? If so was it a royal pain switching things over? What do you do with the old account(s)? I am wondering if I should cancel/stop using all my old ones and open new ones. Am I absolutely crazy for thinking like this - my family would say I am!?

i do have multiple accounts because i'm afraid of spammers. whnever i register to any new website, i register with a fake id so that i wont get in any trouble. if i feel that the website is ssafe then i update the profile with my original e-mail account. i think its important for my safety. i check my all e-mail regularly. i've set my bulk mail to 'immediately delete bulk mails' as i just hate these spammers.still i get so many e-mails for winning lotto, please bid, an important letter, blah..blah.. i just hate these stuffs.

That seems like a good way of handling it. Spammers are such a pain in the you know what.

well i have many accounts and i maintain all of them well ! but whenever i feel that the particular email account is spammed to an extent then i do not use the account more ! but its not that i delete ! i keep it as it was ! and it automatically gets deleted after some times by yahoo or any ! but i maintain one email which is most important to me and i dont allow any kind of spamming in that account !

Thank you I had one of those accounts where I wasn't getting spam cause I made sure not to give out the addy. Now suddenly I have been getting huge amounts of spam to that account. So if you stop using a yahoo account they will eventually delete it. Cool now I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I have tons of email accounts, most of which I barely use! I have one for school, two on hotmail (one recieves too much junk mail so I made another), one on yahoo that I never use, it just collects junk, a gmail account that I use for storage and then an email account that came with a website I joined that allows me to have up to 5 emails! I certainly do not want anymore! That is way too many now.

Funny how we all start with one and somehow end up with several!

well, I have only three email accounts, all are with yahoo. I use two for my family and friends, though I don't really get much emails on the other one. But still am keeping it since I have quite a few friends who get in touch with me through that email account. And for the third one, that's what am using for mylot and it's kinda new. And am checking it out every time I log on here.

I have several email accounts currently. I have kept one on hotmail that is kind of my default, as I have changed ISP's several times and hate updating and changing email address contact info. We just changed again, but I disn't use that mailbox for anything but forwarding myself things - weblinks, etc. I have one account I use that is mostly just for my boating groups mail. I have a couple of others for somethings I have put aside at times and often forget to check them. I may have lost them by now. If you have an account tied to something you use alot, you can just adjust the spam filters and keep an eye on what gets filtered into the spam folders. That may cut down on the craziness. What I do is just have one account that I hand out for everything and keep the filtering really high. I just don't hand out any other adresses. That keeps them free from spam. You can't spam an address you don't have - works for me at least.

Welcome to myLot! Thanks for the reply. Great suggestions. I only have a problem in my one account but that's ok. I set it up for spam. That way if I sign up for coupons of anything it goes there. Of course that brings spam. I am in the process of 'moving' the accounts I want to keep that I have linked to them to a new account. Then I will just let that other one fade away...... (that's it fading LOL)

Considering how freely I hand out the hotmail address, I have relatively low spam levels. But hotmail is pretty agressive with their internal spam filters anyway. I would imagine they filter most of it out before it gets to me. See Ya'

I have 3 accounts. 1 that almost everyone knows, 1 specifically for a paid blog I write for, and 1 for when I don't want anyone to know its me.
