Why has death to be in so many different ways?

I believe that death occurs when one decides somewhere in his mind or soul that the time has come? Please do not get confused with circumstances, because circumstances may lead one to such a decision. Like someone has met with an accident and the agony..., like someone has had enough of bad times and the desire to get away...
Again, such a circumstance would arise because one has fulfilled one's task in life and now it can serve no other purpose. So you see, the circumstances are in fact a trigger.
With this comes my question. Why does the trigger have to be so dreadful and many a time so gruesome? Why could it not be as simple as the soul realising that the purpose is served and death should be embraced?
What do you think??
