I went to my mom's- wshe had her hand operated on- so took mhy boys to see her. When I was leaving I saw this dog down the street so I quickly got the boys in the car and here comes this dog, he jumps up on me and was so excited to see me. So I put him on my mom s porch ran my guys home and came back for him- drove around the neighborhood no one knew who he belonged to, so I took him home with me, called the police in case someone was looking for him.
Now came the fun part introducing him to my guys, I could tell he was just a puppy, looked like a lab pointer mix. So let my guys outside in the back and brought the little guy in- then let Buca in first and then Shammy, I didn't want to scare the poor little guy, but after 5 minutes they were all running around my house playing.
My husband came home and just looked at me- I said I couldn't leave him out there to get hit by a car- he understood, he loves dogs too, so we decided to keep him for the weekend to see if anyone claims him. Then my husband says to me... you know if he stays the weekend he's not going anywhere cause you will be attached.. I laughed and said you mean you will be attached...and he agreed...lol.
Well about an hour later the police called and gave me the number of the woman who lost him, I was very happy- and she couldn't stop thanking me, she asked what do i owe you- I said nothing- I was just trying to help him like people had done for me when my little guy Shammy escaped and got lost. So he went home a happy boy, and I think my guys were kind of releaved- they aren't ready for another brother....LOL.
this isn't the first time this has happened, and I'm sure it won't be the last....have any of you done anything like this?

Kudos to you!! You're my favorite kind of person. My danger is agreeing to foster care animals. My vet asked me to foster care a tiny little dog she had seen at the humane society who was dying as she wouldn't eat or drink. The vet could not take her as she had big dogs at home and she also knows I am a nut when it comes to animals. So I agreed to take the little one for a few days until she could find her a home. I nursed her back to health and my other dog was OK with her,,,end of story I kept her for 13 years!

Awww - what a lovely story! I'm glad the puppy was reunited with his owners in the end. You made me smile with your husband's reaction - that is exactly like my partner every time I have bought one of my stray cats home......... he looks at me very sternly and says "Darling - I thought we agreed - no more cats - we have to many......." and after 24 hours he is almost more attached than I am! I did find a dog once - a German Shepherd puppy. He was tied up outside the library in my hometown years ago. I saw him as I passed to, and fro for an entire morning, and at first I thought he had just been left there by someone inside the library. But after a while, I realised the poor little thing had just been abandoned:-(( I was in rented accomodation then - strictly no pets allowed, - so I took him to my parents' house for food, and then took him to a local lady who ran an animal sanctuary, and she took him in. He was a gorgous little thing, and I'm glad to say that I asked her to keep in touch with me regarding the outcome, and the pup found a great new home very quickly!

oh Rosie- what a great story- poor little guy- so glad to hear he found a home. You did a good thing!!!
Yes my husband was already planning on keeping the dog- I knew he wouldn't mind a few days but this guy was sooo cute- he looked like my lab when he was about a year old, so my husband of course took to him right away- and he was already settling in like he belonged there, but I would have had to find a home for him- 3 monsters in my small house is to much, just the two drive me crazy now...LOL.

Bless your sweet heart sugar. I wish there were more people in the world like you and your family.
I found a shepherd on my door step. He seemed hungry. I had cats at the time, so I could not bring the dog inside. I bought some dog food and fed it and gave it water. I figured that if he was still on my porch the next day, that he would be mine and I would have to figure out how to keep him safe from harm. But, he left and I never saw him again.
I have found many knocked out birds, and took care of them until they were well enough to fly away.
I love animals. We adopted two cats, and they are so spoiled. But, they are our fury kids and need lots of love.
Bless you dear, M&M

WHat a good story with a happy ending. To answer your question. Yes, I have done this many times through out my life. Most recently I picked up a stray chihauhau. I couldn't find the owner. It was a female puppy. Since I already have to dogs of my own. I turned the pup over to a rescue. Where the person who runs the rescue adopted the pup for herself.

Thats a sweet story. I had that happen to me when I live in a different town. The cutest little beagel stay around my house for days so I had to feed her and my neighbor noticed the dog and said that dog lives down the street. So I had to take her home and I really missed her when she was gone.

yep. animal lovers like us can easily fall inlove and get attached to them. it's hard to give them back. but it's the right to do. atleast we know that they are in the hands of their good owners.

It is so nice of you to do this! I'm an animal lover, and I can't imagine how I would feel if one of my pets wandered off and was lost. To know that there are people like you out there to take care of them until they can come home is a good feeling. A dog or cat wandering around lost is in such danger of getting hit by a care or hurt in other ways. House pets are not able to fend for themselves out on the streets. I'm glad that the owner was able to be re-united with him, but he would have had a great home either way, it sounds like!

that's exsctly how I feel- if my pet were lost - I think they would panic- they aren't used to being out there alone. They could easily get hurt in a number of ways- thats why I had to talke the dog home with me, I would have been up all night wondering and worrying if I didn;t.

that's so cute. taking care of a puppy you've seen on the streets is a good thing to do. plus you did call the police just in case someone looks for the puppy. lucky puppy then!
we have this well in our yard. it's been long there. one day, my brother found out that there were two dogs who accidentally dropped themselves inside the well. they are still puppies. one black and one brown. so, my brother immediately took a bit pail so he can get those puppies out from the well. and he did it. we dried them, fed them and took care of them for awhile. then, we went to our neighbors asking if they might be the owners of the puppy. and our neighbor was thankful, too. and just like you, we never asked for something in return. we're happy to atleast save their lives. now, the dogs are grown ups and they always come inside our yard to take a visit and even sleep beside that well.

That is why I have my Bengal cat. I adopted her after we couldn't find her owner. I have taken in many dogs in my life time and one other cat. I rarely consider taking in cats but a good dog is hard to leave out in the cold, rain or dangerous conditions. I think that was great of you and I am glad that your husband is so warm hearted as well. Bless you both!

My Son did once when he was little. This little Dog followed him home and he thought that he would be able to hide the poor thing in the Shed as he wanted to keep him. But we took him in the Car and he took me where he had found the Dog. We also knocked on Doors and eventually found the owners.

Yes well my daughter found a stray dog down in the park one afternoon, she bought him up to the house and asked me if he could stay the night seeing it was going on dusk, I said that would be alright and rang all the authorities, to see if anyone had lost a dog nobody had so the next morning my daughter said to me Mum don't call the dog pound as they will put him down I said no I won't do this and I put a notice on our community board and a young woman came and knocked at my door as she had lost her dog and when the dog seen the woman the dog was very excited and they went home together so I was relived that I had done the right thing by the dog, and all went well but my daughter really did love that particular dog.

Oh, we do it constantly. That's why we've got three dogs and three cats. They were all strays or unwanted, and ended up at our house. And I'm sure that despite the best intentions, this house will clutter with animals and it will become a zoo. But it gives so much joy to have them.

As a kid a friend and I rescued a baby kitten out of a tree down the street from my Grandmothers house. We put it on the ground but it didn't seem to want to go anyway, so after a bit of discussion we took it back to her place. We went door knocking around the houses where it was but noone claimed it. About three days later someone a few houses up came door knocking looking for their cat. After that, my friend and I often wondered what actually happened to it as we never saw it again.
The second cat I ever owned was a stray that was dumped in a cardboard box on my grandparents front lawn. Noone ever claimed it, and we never did find its original owner. While we never had any idea of who dumped it we suspect that they knew us, and that my mother and I were cat lovers. We found it funny that of all the places it could get dumped, it was dumped on my grandmothers lawn in a box it couldn't escape from with holes pocked in it so it could still breathe.
Two of my current kitties are strays we took in as well. Their mother had a litter of three under a family friends house. Our friend had gone door knocking in the area to try and find the original owner, she actually suspected the mum cat was her next door neighbours as they had a Ginger kitty just like this one. Needless to say they swore black and blue it wasn't, but she hasn't seen their cat since. She was woried her dog would kill them or attack them at least if they discovered her backyard. So we rescued them all out. Took them home, temporarily housed them all, while they were still feeding from mum. Then found a home for one kitten, took the mum to a local cat shelter (she kept attacking one of our other cats, and it wasn't fair on him) and ended up keeping the other two kittens.
I'm a sucker for animals and would probably do any of it all over again.

That was a very nice thing you did by bringing the dog home with you to keep him safe. I know first hand how much dogs like to run into traffic (infact I started a discussion about this earlier today) and chances are that he would've been hurt if you hadn't taken him with you. It always makes me so happy to see animal lovers out there because too often they aren't treated the way that they should be. It's probably best that his owner came to get him right away, it would've been sad if you had become attached and then like a week later she came to get him.
