What is it all about? I'm not asking to be mean or offensive to anyone. I really want to know. My hubby's family celebrates it but he doesn't. We're not close to his family so i can't ask them about it and he doesn't really explain it to me...why is it celebrated, how do you celebrate it, etc. I just want to hear/read what it's all about from real people and not just read it in a book.

Muslim celebrate 2 eid in each year one is Eid-ul-Fitre after one month fasting for the pleasure of God and to rectify himself for doing sin and at this eid each solvent family donate $0.50 comulsorily per head of each family member and donate Zakat (2.50% value of our total wealth)to very poor people or orphanage to help poor or orphan. Another Eid is Eid-ul-Azha (Qurbani or sacrifice) when we buy at least one healthy goat, Ship or Cow, Bull or camel as per financial strength. Who have less money 5 or 7 person make a group and buy one large bull and sacrifies two third of its whole meat to relatives and poorest people. Rest part we keep for our own. These are Eid and its meaning is pappiness or pleasure or gladness.

Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: ??? ?????), often abbreviated as simply Eid, sometimes spelled Eid al-Fitr in the Roman alphabet, is an Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Fitr means "to break the fast" and therefore symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period and of all sinful habits. On the day of the celebration, a typical Muslim family gets up very early and attends special prayers held only for the occasion in mosques, in large open areas, stadiums or arenas. The prayer is generally short, and is followed by a khutba. The festivities and merriment start after the prayers with visits to the homes of friends and relatives and thanking the Creator for all blessings. Eid is a time to come together as a community and to renew friendship and family ties. This is a time for peace for all Muslims in the world to devote to prayers and mutual well-being.
It is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Happiness is observed at attaining spiritual uplift after a month of fasting. Muslims dress in holiday attire. After attending the special congregational prayer in the morning, worshippers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace, love, and brotherhood. Visiting friends and relatives is common.
For Muslims, Eid ul-Fitr is a joyful celebration of the achievement of enhanced piety. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory and peace, of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity. Muslims are not only celebrating the end of fasting, but thanking God for the help and strength that they believe he gave them throughout the previous month to help them practice self-control.
Common greetings during this three-day festival are the Arabic greeting "Eid mubarak", "Eid saeed" or its Urdu variation "Eid mubarak!" which, loosely translated, means "Happy Eid!". In many parts of Southeast Asia, it is common to greet people with "Selamat Hari Raya" (Indonesian) or "Salam Aidilfitri" (Malay) which means "Happy Eid". In Indonesia and Malaysia, Muslims greet one another with "Mohon maaf lahir dan batin" which means "I'm sorry physically and spiritually", because in Indonesia and Malaysia, Eid-ul-Fitr is not only for celebrations, it is also the time for Muslims to clean their sins and strengthen their silaturrahim with relatives and friends.

Just try to see the moon on that day. It might take a long time to come but you can see the moon and the star just as it is there in Pakistan Flag. Its called as Ramzan it is observed on 24th of this month. They would fast for one whole month before this festival comes. Fast in the sense a very tremendous fast you will not see even children taking any food after the sun rises and till the sun sets. They will not have any kind of non-vegetarian at this time. Once they see the moon everyday in the night then they will have their food.
