Chase and tackle...the kleenex game!

This time of year I see tons of kids walking around with runny noses. This is not such a big deal if they are old enough to use a kleenex, but toddlers have an aversion to this. I used to have to chase them through the house and tackle them in order to wipe their runny noses. I discovered that if I always buy kleenex with lotion they do not fight me! I imagine it is because their nose never gets sore from being wiped too often. I think it is the greatest invention ever. Once in a while though, some unsuspecting soul will use one of my kleenex to clean their eyeglasses. I love the look of horror on their faces when their glasses are more smeary after being cleaned. lol Do you buy regular kleenex or the kind that contain lotion to prevent sore noses?

Laughs uncontrollably! Yup, been there and done that...on both! Have chased the toddlers with kleenex and have unknowingly wiped my glasses with the lotioned variety! I love the lotioned kleenex for when I have a cold. I buy that type when I get a bad flu or cold. Otherwise, I get the regular. If one only uses a kleenex occassionally it doesn't seem to bother the nose. But when it is going to be every 20 minutes...off to the store for the 'good ones!' I also rub carmex or a bit of chapstick around my nose when I have to blow it often so that it doesn't get red and sore. I always use a Q-tip to do this rather than my finger so that I don't contaminate the carmex and chapstick!!

You are right about the frequency thing. I don't have to blow my nose constantly, but 2 year olds don't often blow. They just allow you to wipe what has trickled out. Yuck!

I tend to not get colds that make me have to blow a lot. I do get stuffy and congested. Then I put Vicks Vaporub around my nose. Even if your avatar did not tell us so, we would know you were medically trained. Smiles

It all depends on my budget. I have purchased the lotioned ones in the past - love them!!! Right now I have the boring, old, nose-hurting ones. I hate them - but they are a lot cheaper.

I hear you there. They are a bit more money but this is one luxury item I will splurge on.

You could try adding some moisturiser straight onto to the nose before wiping .. you' only need a little tiny dollop for a childs nose and maybe it would help with the wiping .. I keep a box of the lotion tissues just for bad colds .. then I put it back in the cupboard ready for the next time .. I can use regular tissues the rest of the time ..

I absolutely hate seeing the runny noses, my daughhter is only 6 months old & we are already playing the tackle game somewhat. I buy the the puffs with lotion but she still hates to have her nose wiped, hates the bulb syringe too, we literaly have to hold her down she acts like we are killing her

Oh wow, do they ever HATE the bulb syringe. I am laughing at the thought of that! My 2 year old hated it so much she knew how to actually "blow" her nose into a kleenex at under 1 year old.

Thats a funny story! *L* I buy the kind that has lotion sometimes. And sometimes just the regular stuff. Whatever works better than wiping my nose on my shirt (which I still do on occasion *L*). I notice toddlers seem to have runny noises whenever I see them in public. I used to work for a toy store, I know what I am talking about. One day I'll have one of my own and then I get to play the kleenex game too :p

I don't buy either! We live frugally and like to not use disposable products, so we use cloth wipes. I just throw em in the wash and never have to worry about running out! At relatives homes, they always seem to have toilet paper rolls lying around, towards the end of the cold you just want to hole up in your house and not leave, so that's all that's left. I giggle everytime I see this, I don't know why I think it's so funny to see a toilet paper roll in the living room!

That would probably work for me if I did not run a daycare. I love the idea of living frugally. Hats off to you!

I buy a big pack at Sam's club. It has one box of lotion and the rest are plain. Yesterday I was at a fast-food play place. We live in the cold and the high this week was about 7 above zero. There are not a lot of cheap places to let the kids run so once a week I take them for lunch and to play for an hour or so. There was a toddler girl with a VERY runny nose who alternately used her hand to rub her snotty nose and then stick it way down the back of her diaper. It was SO gross and her mother never fixed any of it! I wouldn't let my kids snot all over where other kids were playing, at I would at least have changed the kids and wiped her nose! YUCK!

We buy a lot of things at Sam's club too. That is a really gross story! I would have had to be restrained from going over there and wiping her nose myself. It is just second nature for me I guess.

You have me laughing so hard I can hardly read. I can see the tackled one in my mind's eye. Add to the glasses experience that it is a child with their first pair, and it is a hoot. Hopefully there will be someone around to rescue and explain to them what happened.

The first time I ever saw anyone clean their glasses with a lotioned kleenex it was my father. You should have heard the foul language he was muttering. I wish I had a videotape of that moment. lol

yah, i realized that my kids just thought it hurt for me to wipe their noses a lot. since i'm the one using the kleenex the most, i just buy the cheepest, when we actually buy some though. my kids are almost old enough to wipe their own noses, but my nephew still has those runny nose days. especially when he cries (which is quite a bit) but he doesn't seem to run away too much for me.

I have bought the lotion kind before. Right now I just have the regular kind though. My son is pretty good about letting me wipe his nose when it's running.

Good luck! They do cost a bit more but it is well worth it if you don't have to fight with the kids.

Yeah!! Try the chase and tackle game with two-year old twins!!! This is such a great topic..with some really funny responses!! I usually use cloth dipers to clean my little ones noses. Now my older two kids use toilet paper when they need to blow their noses. The kleenex with the lotion in it something I used to buy-before I had four kids!!

They are more expensive but that is one of the things I am willing to splurge on. I do daycare and have 6 two year olds here all day long. I feel your pain...lol
