One of the biggest problem in Linux still now is hardware driver availability. Still many hardware manufacture fails to meet the demand of Linux users. But most of the time you may find a workaround on unsupported hardware. luckily ATI provides drivers for linux and I think that too in a easy to install package. Did you check this link? http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.32.5.html. Now your LAN. Without knowing your make I wont be able to help you with it. In most cases it would be auto detected by the system. Did you check it in YAST-Network-Lan? See if your card is auto detected. My card was auto detected. If no then search for help through some search engines. You would be able to find a solution since you are not the only person to face this problem. =)

First explain me what driver you are searching for and what Linux you are using (version & Name)? If you want a driver then search it on the manufacturure site with specific Linux verion.

I believe that linux is one of those things which looks good when it is first released, but then fades away very quickly, and the outside technology soon surpasses it and it becomes forgotten and left way behind. This is just the way technology works, sad but true. I would always leave it about 12 months to see if any technological product has the longevity before purchasing or investing in the likes.
Sorry if you were looking for positive answers to this, but I feel the truth must out! haha.
