I am interested in the history of nyc and would love to visit there. As a native new yorker or maybe just a tourist, where would you recommend another tourist go? How about to stay? How about to eat?

I live just outside Philadelphia and my advice would be to forget about the Big Apple and come down to the Quaker City. America started here. We're one of the best kept secrets in the USA and a truly great little city!

My brother lives outside Phili. I've only been into the city once, but really enjoyed my time there. Unfortunatly it was Memorial Day weekend and the crowds were horrific. But we enjoyed ourselves none the less.

Seriously? I would tell them to get out and experience the rest of the state. I a native NYer, but not from the city, so perhaps I am biased. But NY state is such a beautiful place. But back on topic, I would tell them to experience time square, broadway and central park. And to go to the lower east side and eat at Katz deli. the best pastrami sandwhich that side of NY. Also famous for the scene in When Harry met Sally. if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I am talking about. Also owned by my cousin (by marriage) so again maybe a little biased. I don't know your heritage, but Ellis isand is a great see. especially if you have ties to immigration. Unfortuatly, I believe the top of the statue of liberty is still closed. Or perhaps it's open now. But that's always a good thing to see. greenwich village is a great place to go and walk around, do some shopping. China town isn't what it used to be, but still has some great eats. But it is right near little italy, so perhaps grab a pizza instead. Ok, I've rambled enough.

Thanx Nicole, I am about 12 hours north of NYC (in southern Ontario Canada) but hope to get to the city at least once in my life. I appreciate the quick tour of the city :-)

I also would love to take a nice trip out there and perhaps eat out at some restaurants that you may spot a celebrity. Does anyone have any restaurants that they know about that the celebs attend? I have heard maybe that Serendipity is a cool place.
