Pet rats

I think that people should buy pet rats for their children instead of hamsters. I went to the pet store to buy a hamster, the guy started telling me how they bite and asked me if I considered a rat. I said no way, then he told me to hold one (I was so scared) but I fell in love. We found a rat breeder and go two rats. Since then I tell everyone what great pets rats are. What do you think about pet rats?

I love pet rats....I used to have two of them.I named them Smoky and Bandit. All my friends thought it was disgusting and nobody ever wanted to hold them.I ended up giving them to someone else because my husband could not stand them either.I do miss them....they were a lot of fun and very cuddely. They even had their picture in a pet catalog....I was so proud. People are always afraid because when they think of rats....something disgusting that lives in the alley comes to mind.Rats are really clean and I agree that they make great pets.

I've always said that. rats are much better for children than hamsters, as they are calmer, more intelligent and inquisitive, bolder and less fragile, less nervous, and less bitey.

I've never had a pet rat, but see nothing wrong with it. Rats are very intelligent and would make a great pet. I wouldn't mind having a pet rat, but my cats might think of him as lunch!
