ei, do you really think religion has something to do with being an american presidential candidate?

I would find it essential for a President of the US (or anywhere for that matter) to have the strength and morals associated with a religious conviction. However, I believe someone in that position should respect the variety of religion by not preaching their particular gospel. This is probably why I have such a hard time voting for President: The combination I expect is rarely seen in politics.
In terms of what we seem to witness every four years, the general electorate, faced with their 2 main choices, rarely vote based on religion.
