talk about fiction or a little fact in them, which movie about a particular animal have you seen and enjoyed? and also, which one do you like ranting about?
a classic is KINGKONG, a big ape with a big heart? i thought the recent version would be more memorable than the original one. i was wrong. aside from the computer aid in making the movie, the plot sucked..
there are movies about snakes, like BOA, KING COBRA (?), ANACONDA..haven't seen those and have no intention of seeing them..
for kids, there's CATS AND DOGS..then STUART LITTLE..
these are movies where the lead is supposed to be the animals, can you add to the list?

Well, the one I like the most is The Bear which is really good, however, Fly Away Home was also very good and Milo and Otis is good too. Some others which are good are, Seconhand Lions, An Unfinished Life and Hidalgo. There you have it, movies about a lion, some bears, some geese and a horse.

You have already received quite a list of popular fiction movies with animals as lead characters. You have been given an assortment of choices, covering most genre. So I'm not going to repeat them, even most of them are favorites of mine too.
Instead,I'd like to add some quality well-made documentaries that are not as common but are far from boring. The best that I recommend is March of the Penguins. Beautifully shot, it chronicles the travails of the Emperor Penguins as they travel to choose their mate, breed, and give birth to their young. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, it is a beautiful film that will touch every person who watches it.
Another one that you might check out is The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. It tells a story of a guy who took care of the Wild Parrots, tracing his relationship with these birds from the beginning to the end. It has an almost poignant ending but its a lovely piece.
Last, I would recommend is Winged Migration. Shown with almost no narration, its a collection of scenes after scenes of birds flying. At first it sounded boring, but watching it proves me wrong. In fact, sometimes I wonder how they got those magnificent closeup shots. Wonderful, relaxing film that will make you truly appreciate the wonders of nature.
I hope you will check these documentaries and enjoy them as much as I did.

Winged Migration is a beautiful film! I thought it would be boring at first, but I really found it to be amazing.
I also liked March of the Penguins - who knew their lives were so hard? I felt bad for the little guys!

Here are a few I've enjoyed. "Milo and Ottis", "Good Boy", "Monkey Trouble", "Because of Win dixie", "Benji" (new or old or both), "Homeward Bound" (1 & 2), "Beetoven" (1 & 2), and "Garfield" (1 & 2)
Hope this helps add to your list :)) I love family type and animal movies. Sometimes its just nice to have the clean ones around to view aside from the scary or sad ones (like you mentioned King Kong ever so sad!).

I'd recommend Mighty Joe Young, the remade one not the origianl. It's such a great story with a happy ending. Of course 101 Dalmations is a good movie for the family or Charlie the Lonesome Cougar. The original That Darn Cat with Haley Mills. Very good one to watch and if you are a cat owner you'll really love it. I also like The Cat from Outer Space. Lassie is always a good one to watch or Homeward Bound. Think I watch a lot of movies about animals.
Now would Godzilla fall into this? I love the remake they did with Matthew Broderick. It had some great scenes in it. The effects were great but the storyline was what made it so good.

i recommend EIGHT BELOW!!! its a heartwarming story of man's relationship with guard dogs in a remote place (iceland? not sure). it features 8 siberian huskies (i think!) who were left behind when their owner leaves due to emergency. the dogs struggled for survival and shows human empathy and compassion for each other. they held on until their owner returned to rescue them. very heartwarming indeed with lots of life's lessons to be learned. i highly recommend this movie! =)

I've heard Happy Feet was enjoyable, but I just can't get into watching penguins prance around. Just doesn't seem interesting.

i like animal movies that are not serious... u have named them as movies for the kids!
i dont like movies where animals terrorize people like jaws,anaconda,bats... they frankly have not much of a story line!
i prefer movies tht are funny and someof them are possible too like beethoven, ping etc!
i also like cats and dogs, and doctor dolittle etc!
they are really entertaining!
