Someone said rock is dead. I don't think so. Today there are lots of bands that still rocks! I know in the past there were better bands than today but there are still good bands.
An example of good band of today is Foo Fighters.
Foo Fighters is a quite new band, It was born after Nirvana, when Kurt died.
Foo Fighter singer's Dave Grohl is the ex bassist of Nirvana and now he plays as lead guitar and frontman singer in Foo Fighters. I think they manke a very good rock even with the last albums!
Dave Grohl did a project called Probot, where he plays the drums in a band with collaborations, like Lemmy from Motorhead.
This is a video from Probot "shake your blood" (I've already posted this in Motorhead discussions)

This is Foo Fighter video "Learn to Fly" the song is very good, and the video is funny, there is the comedian actor Jack Black in the beginning of the video and in the end of it. I think Dave Grohl acted well in this video, he's funny and do a lot of different characters. I think it is one of the best video ever! lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJxS0dX-D9g"Breakout" song from Foo Fighters! The quality of this video is poor but the video rocks! It is funny as always. As you can see most Foo Fighters videos are like a small movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWfORtVpd-8"Low" song from FF again lol! This is another rockin video with Jack Black! they know how to rock! Lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TlUE9Hp9O4"the best of you" from the last FF's album "in your honor". It's a great album! they're 2 cds, 1 is all acoustic and the other heavy rock.

I will stop for a while with FF's videos, If you like I'll post more.
Another great rock band are Queens of the Stone Age.
This is an amazing song, you can see again Dave Grohl as drum player in this band;)

Another great well made video and song from Queens of the stone age! "Burn The Witch" Cool riffs, I can't forget from my mind lol

Right now I think it is enough lol maybe you're getting bored with all this videos.
I definitly say ROCK ISN'T DEAD, there are still lot of good bands. ROCK WILL NEVER DIE!
What you think, is rock dead? and which rocks bands make rock still alive today?

I am a fan of Dave Grohl, that is because of his singing supremacy and the adjustment he made from handling percussions to being a guitarist. I believe that he is one of the still remaining rockers who wants to restore music into rock, as he also supports other bands to give them chances and show their repertoire. Take Tenacious D as an example, they are one of those bands that dedicate songs because they want to thank the pillars of rock who influenced them into being what they are right now.

Some things in your post need to be cleared up. Dave played Drums in Nirvana Krist Novoselic played the bass. I think where you got mixed up is Dave played most of the Instrumentation for Probot and therefore will have probably played bass befored lemmy took over.Foo Fighters are by no means new they arrived on the scene in 1995 which compared to some of todays flash in the pan acts is a long time. In that time theyve made five albums whilst you didn't mention this i thought it would have been interesting. Dave no longer plays drums in QOTSA they have a new line up only with Josh Hommes as the only members seen in atleast the No one Knows video.

Having seen some of the greatest bands in history, Santana, Stones, Jethro Tull, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Led Zepplin, Tommy James and the Shondells...just kidding, and in my flawed but earnest opinion, this band is a compelation of the vibrancy and magnitude of Rock. No band can match their power, tech savvy manipulation, lyrical complexity, and raw but tasteful bonding with the audience.
Other terrific bands exhist. Green Day, Dave Mathews Band, Offspring, Live, Linkin Park.
When one finally makes it and can pursue other interests without ever having to work again, some bag the mania of touring and recording, to stop and smell the flowers. Like Charlie Watts, they go off to raise horses, Or Ian Anderson to farm salmon.
Grohl is bangin the drums again in the band Them Crooked Vultures. CD out in September. John Paul Jones on bass. Josh Homme of Queens of the Stoneage on lead.
