How well do you tip waiters and waitresses, what do you think makes them good?

I like when a waiter is down to earth and will talk to you and doesn't just treat you like another table. I also like when they remember things, like if you ask for something. I don't like when they sit down in front of you.

i waitressed for years and i think i must have been good b/c my first year at a new restaurant working 2 days a week i made $13,000. in tips. and that's no B.S.
a waitress needs to be very attentive, but she or he needs to feel out the clients first. some don't want to be bothered, some want it all. she or he needs to be friendly with a big smile. she or he needs to know the menu and about the food that is served. if they are returning clients, remember their names and something about them. if i remember more, i'll let you know.

15% of what your order is. I like for the waiter or waitresses to be polite, listen, respectful and smiles a lot.

I usually tip 15 percent if the service is decent. And more if the service is very good. Nothing for horrible service.
Good service is not making me wait forever to get a menu, checking on the table once in a while to see if we need anything, some personality and friendliness.

We usually only tip good if they are women because my husband doesnt like guy waiters. I know it is horrible. If they do a good job they usually get 10 percent. If not they get very little! They are a good waiter/waitress they are on top of your order and know when to bring refills and such. They also have your meals out in a timely manner and are very nice and polite to you!

i only tip waiters and waitresses if I m happy with thier service..and secondly it depends to a large extent the kind of training they have gone through that determines how they behave..ofcourse willingness to work matters a lot.
