When I installed Windows Xp I prefered doing a tweaked copy of it without internet explorer and without windows media player, msn messenger and programs like that I dont like.
I removed windows Paint too. At the place of Internet explorer I installed Firefox, and instead of media player I installed VLC. I installed too the last version of msn messenger.
So Do you like to Tweak your Windows? Tell me which changes in windows have you done!

I use Mac OS X but like to tweak the performance, starting with installation. I try not to install the language support for languages I don't use, and also don't bother with all the demo software.
I also tweak the OS to make it run faster and eliminate features tht make the software easier for beginners, but that I don't use.

I love tweaking my OS, i even tweaked firefox so it can upload pages faster it is great, best platform if u want to tweak your system is linux, there are so many possiblities, of course u need to learn first but it is the ultimate freedom in tweaking your os and other software, and u could try to get aMSN it is faster than normal MSN Messenger. Search for aMSN nice soft. and instid of photoshop u could use Gimp. Instid of office u could try open office for that one u got to visit www.openoffice.org. there are alot more.

wow another windows tweaker lol! Me too I tweak firefox to upload the page faster (I forgot to say it).
I always wanted to use linux, but I don't know where to start, and I think it is a problem with program compatibility. Then there aren't as much programs as in windows.
Is aMSN for Windows too? I've found only the linux version!
Yes I've heard about Gimp and I was going to install it. I think I'll do it soon.
Thanks for the openoffice link. I think I will try that too.

Yes, I like to tweak my system to make it runs faster. One thing I always do is to prevent the OS loading too many services at startup. Books on optimizing computer reveals that many services are actually of no use to ordinary users but they occupy a significant portion of memory making the system run sluggishly. So I use tweaking software to prohibit unnecessary service to load when machine is turned on.

yes! I do a lot of tweaking using Windows XP. My tweaks are mostly on memory and look and feel, and some registry, AND group policy(gpedit). Also a some start ups. AND some windows unwanted things like system restore and windows alerts. I feel its really helps a lot in improving performance. Don't forget to turn up some services like remote registry stuffs.. oh! there are so many... you just need to explore..

I always loved customizing programs and adding skins.

Yeah, I do some tweaks my Operating System but rarely.
Some tweaks I do with mine Operating System (Windows XP Service Pack 2) are:
First to speed up my PC, I change the performance option which is in the advanced tab of My Computer Properties.
Use sometimes optimum performance for speed and sometimes chose optimum appearance for some graphics.
Second, always disable the "error sending report" feature of it by going to the advanced tab of My Computer Properties and changing the Error Reporting properties. Its really annoying when its popped out.
Use Hibernation instead of turn off when electricity is gone.
But I uses Windows Firewall than any other. I think Its better than others and lite to.
I use IE 7 and Windows Media Player 11 but also uses VLC Media Player, Media Player Classic, Real Player, Jet Audio (Sometimes).
I don't use Games feature of Windows XP and permanently removed the Windows messenger option. It always some at start up which really annoyed me a lot.
Have a nice day.

Yes I did some tweaking on here. Actually I cannot remove Internet Explorer because I have some sites that will not open without it. Although I use Firefox, Opera or Avant Browser instead of Internet Explorer :). I just uninstalled IE 7 because it was sucking! It wouldn't even load any pages. So I thought whatever! I use Classic Media Player, DiVX, UltraPlayer, WinAmp and occasionally Windows Media Player and Real Audio Player. I have Open Office and Microsoft Office installed (Microsoft office is bootleg, haha). I have tweaked the register and used powertools for Windows.
