My mother is strict but more on the conservative side. She's a devoted catholic and she believes that a man and a woman should after they are married.

You're lucky to have that kind of parent. Basically, I grew up in a very traditional and conservative family. My siblings and I were practically left to our grandmother to care for us. Expressing love, emotions, or feelings were taboo. So we can't really tell them whatever is in our minds. From what you stated, Parents are strict with their little ones coz it is better to start setting limitations and to discipline them early as well. When kids reach adolescent period, parents know that their kids are more aware of what's going on outside their home and allow them a little freedom to explore. When they settle down, we both know that with marriage, we develop a keen sense of maturity. Parents, in turn, are more comfortable sharing with them just about everything coz they know we can fully understand our parents better.

I have seen the same in my family. My parents were very strict, way more than any of my friends, I hated it. Now my Mom (my father has passed away) talks to me like a friend and seeks my advise. The same is with my children, I was strict with them and now I find myself asking them questions about many things.
