Rude Real Estate Agents

Has any tenant/s ever had troubles with their real estate agents? We at current find our new real estate agent to be rude and inflexible. We often wonder how one of the ladies there has a job because her customer service skills are very poor and she is rude in the way she speaks to people. We have our first house inspection coming up and had a hard time arranging a time for the inspection. The only time we were given was weekday only (9.30am to 5pm). My partner and I both work and are not in a position to take time off work. The real estate does not do house inspections on weekends and we dont like anybody in our house when we are not home. And because it was our first house inspection we wanted to be present for it. We were told by our real estate agent and I quote "well you need to make yourself more flexible then". I thought that this was really rude. As a business they need to be more flexible towards their customer's needs and wants. This is one of several incidences involving myself and the real estate agents. I have thought about ringing the tribunal and putting in a complaint about their extremely rude attitude towards us because I feel that complaining to the manager of the real estate would fall on deaf ears. What are your thoughts? What would you have done in this situation? I feel that as tenants we are being walked all over and treated like crap. There are more incidences but I wont add them here because there are too many to name. Have you had a similar experience? Let me know.

you can tell your real estate agent that they work for you.that you are the one paying them. an that will put a stop of all the rudeness.if you are talking about people looking at your home.i would let them look while i wasnt there.that way you have more lookers.i dont see why you would want to be there.as long as they sold the house. "i wouldnt care if i was there or not.you do have to flexable some.to be able to work with the realtor.how are they going to sell the house if they have to work around your scheule an what about the buyer they cant always come when you are at home.so yes you need to be more flexable, the agent is just being honest with you.

I don't blame him for not wanting people in the house when he's not there. That would be a very uneasy feeling. So many people are dishonest, anything could go missing. It's just..freaky.
My oven needs to be fixed and when I told the real estates he said 'i just need you to email your address and the make and model of the oven, plus just written consent saying you'll let us give the keys to the electrician.'
I was like 'uh, excuse me? No one's coming in my house when I'm not there."

I think that Classy mis-understood my discussion.....I am renting, not selling my house. The real estate want to do a house inspection and I dont want them in the house when we are not home. They said they were going to use their own keys to gain access to the house if we were not going to be home. Does anyone know the legalities of this? Do the real estate need to have written permission from us to gain access to the house when we are not home? I believe that as a business it is their duty to keep their customers happy regardless of whether they are the tenant or the home owner. I would definately not reccommend the real estate we are with now. We were going to report them to the tribunal but when it comes to operating as a real estate they have not done anything wrong it is just their attitudes that stink, their low grade customer service skills that stink.

One way to p**s off angry people is to become like a model citizen. It's a bit tongue in cheek. They are expecting people to be rotten so prove them wrong. If they are in a bad mood when you walk in, be really nice, really nice. They won't know which way to look!
Rude people suck in my book. Don't be like them.

I've worked in real estate myself and I'll sit on the fence on this one. The Property Manager's and their assistants can be quite rude, I've seen that. Also tenants can be the same. You see the best and worst in people in that industry.
For your own sake I would suggest you try to use up front communication and keep trying to 'get on'. You do have your rights that's very true and so you should. But for the sake of your next rental property it pays to be liked, it pays to have a reputation of being a good tenant.
Should you rent another property through a different agent, your existing agent will be called upon as a referee. Great tenants are those that keep properties clean, report faults, don't let houses fall apart and not say anything, pay there rent on time and get on with the agents. Do all this and you can't go wrong.
You have every right to postpone an inspection until such time it suits both parties. Explain to your boss what's happening, maybe you'll get time off. Stay in touch with the agent to explain what you are doing.

We tried meeting with a real estate agent who was recommended to us by a friend. The guy treated us rudely, wasn't interested in meeting with us or calling us back. We got the feeling pretty quickly that he didn't need or want our business. We ended up finding another agent who was wonderful and went out of her way to be polite. She'd definately get lots of referrals from us.
If we get treated rudely by anyone, we cut our ties with them and let their managers know. They shouldn't be doing that if they want to keep their jobs.

Over all I consider real estate agents to be lower than politictions and more dishonest.
Rude pushy liars.
I have however been fortunate enough to meet an honest reputable reliable agent. That I would recommend to anyone in this part of NJ however this doesn't help to find a decent agent any where else.
Good luck to you.

I was going to start a discussion about this but zhetto, you have beat me to it. I have only just got a new property and I won't be moving for some time after the hassle we went through getting this one! Firstly, I couldn't believe the amount of rental property inspections I went to where the real estate agent was late or didn't even show up! MAJORITY of the inspections I went to, the real estate agent was at least 15 minutes late blaming the "traffic" what I want to know is, why didn't they plan for the traffic like all of us potential tenants did and why did we have to wait outside in the elements (stinking hot 40 degree days) because of their lateness. THEN, on one particular occasion, the agent didn't show. When I rang the realestate agency, a woman informed me that the current tenant was supposed to let everyone in. How slack is that! They couldnt even show us around themselves. And the tenant didnt show up so I drove half an hour in peak hour traffic for nothing.
I can also understand why you wouldnt want to have anyone in your house. People are so dodgy now, they could do anything, especially with your valuables. Fortunately, I have been home for all of my inspections!!
The way I see it, you are paying them so you should be treated with the utmost respect. The only way I find that I get anywhere with real estate agents though is to pester, pester, pester until someone listens and does something about it. Take for example the house I applied for. After I dropped in my application, I was informed by the person that I would be contacted in the next 2 days. Two days went by and I heard nothing so I rang the R/E agency and they said that they wern't done. Four days later, I rang back and the R/E agent said they would get back to me "tommorrow". Tommorrow came and went and I heard nothing. Finally I got my mum to ring the next day to go guarentor. He said that would help my application but still didn't even guarentee me the place. Finally on the next day he rang back to say that I had been successful and the property was mine. HERES THE CLINCHER, I waited all that time and me and my boyfriend were THE ONLY applicants!!!
I wouldnt worry about that lady. She's not happy with her own life thats the only reason she takes it out on you. And dont worry, you are not alone in the fight against rude real estate agents. Its a case of BEEN THERE, DONE THAT for me!!

It is a relief to hear that are other people are having the same problems that we are having. In our 3 months that we have been here we have been hung up on the phone by the real estate (in the first week), threatened eviction (in the first week when the real estate failed to tell us it takes two weeks to set up a direct debit account and I had no other way to pay the rent) and told we needed to be more flexible (in the second month). And won't you read about it - the real estate agent who has been so rude to us from day one is the person conducting the inspection!!!!! That's why we dont want her in the house when we are not home because I believe she will blame us for something we didnt do when we are not there to defend ourselves. And I am putting my foot down hard because I wont budge from this house because of her utter rudeness. So she will have to put up with me for many months to come - I will join you, rhianna, in pestering our real estate agent until one day we will have the real estate going out of their way and being flexible towards our needs and wants. So rhianna, I hear you loud and clear!!!!

Yes we are having the same problem here with the real estate agent that we deal with here, and the way that they speak to us in regards to repairs that have to be done and the amount of time that they take some of these are minor while others are not and they seem to care what the owners say and not us when it comes to electrical problems and they wanted to come and fix the electricity problem here when the man did not even have a licence to do this kind of work, and telling me that I would have to pay for the fault when it is the fault of the house, and yes Zhetto they need to be reported to the tribunal and I am going to do the same if they keep treating us this way.

Oh, I've had rude eral estates. When my friend and I were lookong for rental propertis, we went into the real estate to ask for an inspection. We stood there for about a minute , waiting for the woman there to stop having a conversation about her weekend with the other worker. She saw us, but must have just thought 'oh , two young people looking for a place, whatever'. She was very rude too, and made us feel stupid by the things she was saying to us. She definitely had an attitude problem and thought she was just great.
We were considering making a complaint but thought it would just go unnoticed. I'd say, stick up for yourself, don't take their crap. After all you are the one paying them and don't feel pressured to have to change your schedule to suit them. Don't back down, and just be firm with them. MAke an official compaint if y ou have to. Or can you change Real Estates? I'm sure there's a R Estate out there that prides themself on customer service and will be glad to help you out.
