Has any of you mums and dads out there come up with a good solution on how to get your little ones out of throwing a tantram. My 5 year old son has been having a wobbly now for the past hour protesting that he will not eat his food, in between which we have stamping feet and smashing hands on the table, when he throws one of his tempers i've had it, i've tried the time out period, i've tried the you will not have this mode, and of course i have tried the lets sit down and talk about this, all to no avail, i know it's the age..etc but would just like to know if there might be something i cn do to calm him and remove his memory from the reason his having his doo, it's at that point i dread taking him to the shops. My little girl who is now 9 went through a stage like this at the age of 4 but grew out of it immediately. Also i have tried to remove all e numbers and additives from his food. He has been diagnoised hyperactive with the doctors when he was three. Thank you in advance for your replies

hiya sweety.
this one looks familiar to me in a few ways.
one thing i can associate with is the hyperactivity, i had the same when i was his age but eventually grew out of it and i was diagnosed with being allergic to E numbers so he may grow out of that.
Eating is different i know first hand the effects of parents letting a child eat what ever they want and not making them eat their veggies this later leads to severe problems in adulthood.
Have you tried the " captin planet would eat this " captin planet being a cartoon super hero, that kind of approach?
i will keep thinking about this because there is a solution but it's not at the forfront of my mind.

My almost five year old has these moments every so often also. It's seems like he gets himself so worked up he can't calm down. I make him sit on he sofa where he can't hurt himself or anyone/thing else and let him have a hissy. There is NO reasoning with him when he's like this either! When he finally snaps out of it he's usually sorry and life goes on like normal.
He hasn't had one in several months, I really hope this doesn't jinx me!!
Good Luck!
