does anyone here collect books? What i mean is that is there anyone who keeps a lot of books that he/she never looks back too but, you tend to your collection? I have lots of books i keep on my special bookshelves, and i keep only the best ones and i get them hardcover. The best way to get more books for a collection is to buy from a used/rare book store or online like http://www.amazon.com/ where you can buy used books very cheap with only a couple bucks for shipping.
does any1 else here collect books? If so, do you have tips for collectors? What are your favorite specimens?
Post Away! =D

Cookbooks. I know it's not what you meant, but I can't stop buying them. I have so many that I don't really refer to them. If I have favorite recipes out of them, I keep those recipes in a separate book so I can access them easily. But I have all these cookbooks and cannot help myself form adding to the collection every chance I get.

I collect color books. I go to yard sales and thrift stores to find the best color books I can. Even if they have a few pages colored I will still take them. Hopefully some day they will be worth something.

No, I don't collect books but I buy one every now and then which I think is worth reading. I believe that books should not be displayed to collect dust on the shelves so I lend them to friends who, unfortunately, forget to return the books to the owner.

I do. I keep a binder with them all listed and will even take it with me to the flea markets and library book sales. I get some many books and pay no shipping that way. Also I have a paperback trading site and get more books that way. Some I read again, normally though I read them once and see if there are more by that author in the front of the book. Write them down and begin my search.
Love books and hope that they are always around.
I prefer sci fi and horror type books.

I sell books for a lving and Estate Sales are better sources than used books stores. Estate sales, thrift shops and auctions (brick & Mortar auctions) are the places the used book dealers get their stock from.
I also collet books. I've never counted them all but there have to be a couple thousand and they are in just about every room of the house. Most are reading copies but I have a number of rare children's boks that I keep out of direct sunlight. There are first printngs of the peter Rabbit books and illustrated Victorian era Children's books. I started a collection of first printings of the Lemony Snickett books but I don't have the first one and it looks like it will cost me an arm and a leg. I really want that one.

I have been buying books for more than 40 years now, and as I have rarely sold or given any away, there are several thousand books now in my "collection" It's not a collection in the sense that I look for a particular author or first editions or anything like that, it's just an accumulation of years of book buying. At one time though I did have a phase of collecting science fiction magazines, and I have quite a few of those as well.

I collect old or antique books. My favorite has to be my latin book, even though it's the youngest out of my entire collection at a hundred years old.
I've gotten kinda lucky with it I guess. Nearly half of them are first editions, which the older the first editions are the more money they're worth. I rarely ever read them but I do care for them, the best I can. I add a new one every now and again. I usually can't buy them online since most people KNOW what they have..so I go to flea markets and other home-based sales like in people's garages or churches. Being broke half the time dictates I HAVE to only shop in those kinds of places for them..so far I have twenty or so books in y collection. There's not alot of space for them where I live..having a continuously growing collection of books I DO read which are now ranging at somewhere around five hundred or so books on my shelves..but I make do lol.

I collect books. The last time i counted was 5 years ago but i have over 2000 books at that time. i probably have a couple of hundreds added to that already. i loved reading books since i was a child. and honestly i still have books from 10-15 years ago on my collection. the ones i really love i get 3 copies of each. one in hardbound (for display), and 2 in paperback, 1 for reading and the 2nd one for backup just in case the one i'm reading is too worn out from having to read over and over again.
my favorite books would be james clavell's asian saga, jeffrey archer books and umberto eco books.

WOW pagibig!
You should keep track of your collection with some software. With that many books, you must be overwhelmed when looking for certain ones!
Also, i have another question to ask to everybody:
Do you ever trade books with others?
and,
Have you ever heard of a "book collector's club" either online or in real life; i would like to try one out.
Happy Posting! =D

I have a few books I'm collecting. I started collecting them in middle school. Our English teacher gave us a scholastic bookform to order from. I have 5 of the 20 books. I intend to use amazon to find the others. They're a series called "Heartland" .. about a horsefarm nestled in Virginia where they train horses, take care of em, etc...but at the same time its about a teenager growing up there. They're interesting. Latley I've been reading V.C. Andrews series. Maybe when I get caught up money-wise, I can start buying and collecting those.
