DDR as an exercise method

I used DDR a while ago to lose around 15 pounds, combined with a healthier diet. I've heard people discredit the merits of using a game to exercise, but I really want to point out one of the best reasons to play DDR is the exercise.
DDR is actually being used in schools for people that don't want to just run in circles. The added sense of a game makes it fun to do, so people that find exercising boring (This was the category I think I fit in most) will be more apt to play. It can be done indoors, in the comfort of one's own living room, at relatively low costs. Tread mills and exercise bikes cost (if you get good ones) over 500 dollars. Assuming you don't already own a gaming system, its about 100 dollars for a system (GameCube new or PS2 used off ebay), 40 dollars for the game, and 20 dollars for a good, Brand name pad (don't get a third party controller, it will break after about an hour of use).
So, to the nay-sayers out there, I've lost 15 pounds with this game, and plan to lose 15 more.

DDR is a great exercise method. It also shapes you beautiful legs. :)
I don't need to lose weight so I don't need to use DDR as exercise, I use it for fun. But that's just the thing! If someone wants to lose weight, if they play DDR, you'll get distracted because you're having so much fun and you'll be losing weight and getting in shape at the same time. It's a wonderful game.
I've had my Ultramix 4 for Xbox since November 2006, and I play it all the time. My friend has Max 2 and Supernova for her Playstation 2 and I've also played those too.
Have good weekend and happy holidays, from Taymouse!

it actually works...i believe you. thats actually how my husband got started with the game. at one point he told me he was almost 300lbs and then he started the game to see and not only got addicted to the game but had the added effect of losing weight as well. he used this along with eating better and lifting weights. it goes along as a cardio thing. i know some of the games actually have a weight loss mode where it shows you how many calories you've lost and what it was equivilant to. i haven't tried it on the pads myself, but my cordination isn't that well to begin with.

I personally play DDR everyday as a form of exercise. Not only do I love the game, but it is a very efficient way of staying fit, and its not at all boring!

Dance dance revolution rocks! I don't use it to loose weight since I'm already too skinny, but I like to play it a lot. At the beginning it is quite difficult to get used to all those arrows going up so fast, but when you get used to it you can play every single song.

Yes this is true. Instead of going to a Gym or do sporting that you don't like. Why not use your hobbies into video game?. DDR is perfect as an exercise method.

Lol I used to do it because I never got up to do any exercise otherwise. I just sit on my computer playing games all day. I'm not fat or anywhere near it; most people think I'm anorexic. But I need my exercise, and DDR is fun until I get tired and collapse hahah.
