There are numerous cop shows out there that are both current and in re-runs, let alone the ones we grew up with that aren't on tv anymore. I happen to love watching shows about the police and them solving crimes. Anybody else here like them and if so which ones and why and are there ones you don't like? If you don't like any please share your opinion as to why.
I've liked way too many to list. Let's just say I'm a cop show junkie :) I grew up watching ones like Adam 12, TJ Hooker, 21 Jump Street. 21 Jump Street was one of my favorites as a teenager. It was a great show about undercover cops in the highschools. It gave a very different perspective on cops and teens. Mostly now I watch shows like NCIS, CSI and Law and Order SVU. All three of these I love how they go about solving the cases. How they delve into them and try to find different ways to discover who the criminal might be.

I grew up seeing the cop shows of the 70's. Kojak, Charlie's Angels, Starsky and Hutch, Police Woman, columbo, Cannon, Baraby Jones. And there was Barney Miller. True it was a sitcom, but it is my favorite cop show of the 70's. In the 80's,I saw a little seris called Hill Street Blues. I saw it for a few years. Then in the 90's it was NYPD Blue. I stayed as long as David Caruso stayed. But I loved Homicide, Life On The Streets.I remember NBC descibing it as "too good for t.v." and they were right. It was so rare to see a real ensemble. All the cast was great. And like Barney Miller , I think it was as real to life as t.v. can get. Today I see CSI Miami sometimes because my man David is the lead.

Homicide could be very good I agree. It was one I did enjoy. I remember Barney Miller. I also remember Fish, a spin-off from it. I loved Baranby Jones and SWAT, both had Shea in it and he was so cute. Yes as a kid I had a crush.

johnny depp, 21 jump. yum.
csi is my favorite show. i watch it every night. the reruns of course. the original csi. i have tried watching the other csi's but i just can't get into them. i kind of like csi miami, but i don't like the head guy. he over plays his role. i don't get to watch the new csi much, the channel does not come in well. i used to hate (with a passion) law and order, but when i have seen the csi episode, i flick it over to law and order and i kind of like it. plus law and order is always on.

I'm not that big on CSI New York but I like the other two. I loved Law and Order when Jerry Orbach was on. After he left it just wasn't the same for me. SVU though I still love and will watch that in re-runs as well.

I do enjoy watching them yes, though I guess as a Brit, many of the ones see will not mea so much to you. My favourite has got to be "Inspector Morse". It is more of a thinking person's detective if you know what I mean - more cerebral, and less shootings, and car chases.I loved the books and I loved all the episodes. It is set in Oxford. I also used to enjoy "Taggart" which is set in Glasgow.

I've heard of both and seen bits and pieces of those but couldn't say more then that. PBS here will show them at times.
I like thinking person's detectives actually. The figuring out the puzzle of the mystery. Sometimes they can be very complicated mysteries and those are more fun for me. I like it when they go beyond the obvious.

Bones can be very good. I also like Crossing Jordan, another mix with forensics and the cops. I've watched a lot of cop shows over the years it's hard to remember them all.

Hehe I'm a cop show addict as well. They are really easy to get sucked in to, at least for me. I like to try and figure things out before they do. Some times I do and other times I'm way off but that's ok. Makes it more interesting that way.

I am a huge fan of Law and Order SVU & CI. I like some of the older / orginal Law and Order too. I didn't watch any of the 80's and early 90's shows (didn't watch much TV when I was younger). I haven't really seen too many newer shows to say I like or dislike any of them. We did tried to watch on of the CSI shows once and turned it off after a few mintues. It just didn't snag us like Law and Order does. I would have to say I don't care for NYPD Blue either. I liked some of the first couple seasons. I guess it's the characters that I didn't relate to.
I know it's not really a "cop" show - but there is a lot of cops and attonerys and police work in Medium. And I really enjoy that show. I love everything about it.

Crime is a popular subject, it always has been. I like Law and Order because you get detective work which is solving the crime and catching the bad guys.
I also like the show "Cops" where they follow along with cops on patrol. Always interesting to see the screw ups on "Cops".

The best cop show was The Untouchables. After that, I never watched many of them. I don't like them because I don't want that kind of thing in my life. I do like some of the cop movies like Shaft or the Lethal Weapon movies. I don't want to know about crime and murder. For me it is not psychologically advantageous. And I don't want to watch TV that often.

I have always loved police and law dramas. I especially love the Law & Order series, CSI & SVU b/c the stories are right from the headlines. They are so informative. I still watch the Miami Vice re-runs. I just love them. The movie was nothing compared to the actual series. I even loved Perry Mason!! Barnaby Jones and all the others. I am just a huge fan of all of them.

Yes, I am completely obsessed with cop shows! I adore CSI. But, I really like the reality based shows. I looove cops, real stories of the highway patrol (old!), all of them. I really like the show that follows the real detectives and watches them try to solve crimes in the first 48 hours...forgot its name. We watch Dog allll the time here too.

I like to watch forensic files. That can be really interesting to see how they work with real crimes. I watch the others now and then as well. Not all the time but periodically.

Law and order and CSI are good but I no longer watch them regularly to often the shows begin to become repetative.
I miss Homicide Life on the Streets that was a great show and I can't find it in reruns right now.
Currently my favorites are on USA MONK and PSYCH
Both are not normal cop shows and have a good sense of humor. The characters are quirky enough to keep from being more of the same old stuff.
I noticed there is usually a trend in shows.
I mean it goes back and forth between cop shows, hospital shows, sitcoms, and then mix of hospital / cop shows
I grew up watching Mod Squad, The Rookies, Police Woman, Police Story, the Snoop Sisters, Ellery Queen Mysterys, the later two may be how I developed my interest in more off beat characters.
later it was Hawaii Five O, Baretta, Starsky and Hutch,
Barney Miller, [a cop show that was a sitcom], Miami Vice, Cagney and Lacey, Due South, Enos,
Not cop but detective shows / catch or trap the bad guy shows
Charlie's Angels, Rockford Files, Moonlighting, Tenspeed and Brownshoe, Feather and Father, Mission Impossible, the Avengers, the Saint, Greatest American Hero [comic book spoof, cop show, sitcom, the A-Team, McGuyver, Cosby Mysteries, Diagnosis Murder, Cover Up, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.
To many to mention.

Heheh that's why I didn't list al the ones I liked. Looks like we watched many of the same shows. I didn't see Quincy in the list. That was a great show although now much of it is outdated but that is because of the advances we have made in forensics. Did you ever watch Forever Knight? It was about a vampire turned police officer.
You're right there usually is a trend in shows. I've noticed that before.

I loved Quincy and you are right it is dated now but then so many of those shows are. Yes I did watch Forever Knight sometimes I didn't like the actor playing the part, I do have the original movie for it on video.
There are so many shows that I loved to watch, and of course in the 70's if a show didn't make it, it got cancelled no hope for it.
And even with the cop shows that was the era of the Normal Lear sit com.
I tried to watch the closer but the nights it was on kept changing. I liked the show but just couldn't follow what nights it was on.
That really makes my teeth itch, when a show gets that kind of coverage.
Something that also happened to Forever Knight. It was syndicated so it was not always on at the same time all the time.
Since we have similar tastes maybe you would know.
There was show I think it may have been called blind justice.
The tag line was "Justice May be blind ... but it can see in the dark."
It was about a judge who appeared nerdy on the bench, but he had back team of ex criminals, and they would then get the evidence on the criminals that the judge had to let go due to a legal loop hole.
Does it sound familiar?

How about Dark Justice: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101073/
I recognized it but took me a minute to find it. I knew the name wasn't right but I knew the tag line.
Yeah I have the original movie for Forever Knight on DVD. I found it at a Dollar General for $3. I couldn't pass it up.
I've had a few shows that kept moving times to make it hard to find to watch. Stingray did that too me. That or if I liked it, they canceled it. They loved to do that to me.

I love cop shows too! SVU is by far my favorite, although I do love comedy cop shows like Monk and Psych (I'm watching Psych right now, in fact). I just started watching them about a year ago and I don't know exactly why I'm so attracted to them, but I'm addicted. I've watched some CSI, but it goes over too many different things at once and I get confused.
