Your daughter's first period

Well, it finally happened for me. My eleven year old got her first period and I went about it pretty well, showed her how to put the pad in and such but my little girl is growing up! It's still quite an adjustment for me because she acts so young. I was thirteen when I first got mine but this year she will be turning twelve. I guess that's the norm these days?? How did you feel when your daughter got her first period?

I don't have any girls, but I started mine when I was 11. Are you starting her on pads and not tampons? I always hated pads - the tampons were so much more hidden and I felt less odorous if you know what I mean.

I figured pads were the best way to go at the beginning, I had them and now they have all sorts of different kinds to choose from I'm sure she could find something comfortable. I wasn't sure if I should give her tampons though, I didn't start using them until I was in my twenties. I guess they have those ones for teens now, I might go and buy her some but I think her cycle is just about over though and I gave her the mini pads to use. I guess I'll go and get some of those tampons for next month because I feel so secure with them myself, I wish I had been introduced to them much earlier as well!

I guess it's not so bad, it is a part of life and I did take it quite well when it did happen but I just feel bad for her to have this monthly curse so early in life :o( I just hope it's a little bit easier on her than it was on me, guess that's what I'm more worried about.

I can't imagine the day that it will happen - got an 8 month old chewing on a biscuit here, lol I was 15 when I got mine and the first thing I went for was a tampon. Girls are strange creatures these days - be sure to talk with her about the different types of products just to be sure. Once it happens for my daughter, I'm sure I'll feel sad that she's growing up, but then I'll feel relief to finally have that milestone pass on through.
