Woow WIndows Vista.. what a hot subject i can say. I have talked a lot in my area with many of my friends and all of them had only positive thoughts about it. I can say that i was blow off by this new windows system. Some things certainly lack to it but this new look which Microsoft has incorporated in it certainly do the money you would give for it. I have waited this new system for 2 weeks and here i am using it. It was pretty hard for me to buy it because in my area it can't be found. So i had to ask a friend from another part of my country to order me. I am so happy using it and all i have are only words of gratitdue. I post here a short description about VISTA.
Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems. Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista includes version 3.0 of the .NET Framework out of the box. The .Net Framework makes it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API.

I love trying out the 'new' technologies, so nearly a year ago I sold my iMac and got a PC, then downloaded the first beta of Vista. I ran Vista as 32 bit and 64 bit on 2 different PCs until I bought the official release a few weeks ago. The 64 bit version definitely runs faster than the 32 bit version, but you will have a lot more driver holdups. I didn't have any problems running programs, if they didn't work quite right I just enabled compatibility mode. If you have too many problems, you can always download Virtual PC 2007 from the Microsoft site (it's free), and run an instance of XP on your computer, while still running Vista, it works great. All that being said, Windows Vista is light years better than XP ever was, and after running Vista for quite awhile now, and can honestly and confidently say that Vista is almost as good as Mac OS X was 5 years ago. They hired the user interface guy away from Apple to redo the Windows look, and he left MS as soon as he was done to pursue other interests. The Vista interface is much slicker, stuff can be found faster, and it is more user friendly. MS has done an excellent job with most of their apps in getting them to run and look more like the suite of applications that Apple has, but they still aren't as good as the apps being copied. If you really need Windows, get a Mac and set up a Mac/Vista dual boot system.

Another note to those running Vista or looking to run it, you need some real hardware. Expect to cough up $2000 for hardware plus a good monitor to run Vista decently. My current setup I bought at Best Buy, I walked out with a $1000 Gateway system and $2000 of upgrades to install. I've got an AMD64 X2 4600+ with 3Gb of dual channel RAM, a 150Gb Raptor X HD (a very speedy hard drive) for the system and apps, with a 750Gb HD for the data. I've got a DVD burner and a DVD-ROM drive installed, an ATI X1900 GT Graphics Card, displaying hi-def on a 21' widescreen Gateway LCD (amazing monitor). It's also hooked up to a very nice battery back up system from Best Buy's Geek Squad, so I'm safe from power surges and outages (for at least 1/2 an hour with the computer running, speakers blaring, and a PS2 running all at the same time). Vista is nice, but just like XP, don't run with the minimum. XP recommended 512Mb RAM, it only ran decently with at least a 1Gb, Vista recommends 1Gb, it only begins to run ok at 2Gb, and I'm looking to upgrade to 4Gb.

Well I have been using vista for a month now and spent around 15000 Indian Rupees that is around (400 US$) to upgrade my hardware to run vista. But I tell you it's not worth it. Except the new graphic interface there is nothing to admire about, Compatibility issues give you a headache, Internet Explorer many a times stop responding specially while using Gmail. I find the user interface more complex for amateuers. Overall its not worth spending your money on it.

We have it and believe me all it is is pretty to look at. Much like my dog it does as it likes and not what its told,it is not compatable with many of thee programmes that you used on XP. Upgrading to Vista means changing most of your gadgets i.e MPĀ£ players and so on.

I've installed vista and vista64 last few days and now i am back to Xp . If you want to try vista you should check the software which compatable with vista at www.bestvistadownloads.com .
I have a hard time with vista since vista require not only hardware but also software . For me Ican't discard software I usually use ,so I give up vista . May be we should wait till all popular software are ok with vista .

Vista offers the possibility of support to emerging hardware, software and security technologies. However, with this it has lost compatibility with some of the older hardware/software. For a home user I would recoment waiting at least a year before buying Vista to allow some of the rough spots to get smoothed out.
I have heard many complaints about Vista simply because some of the basic functions people use are in different locations or named something different now. Better to wait until the computer-people have more time with the new OS so you can get reliable support if needed,

I heard people complaining about Vista's poor compatibility which has seriously hinging people from upgrading to it. But as far as I understand it, you can always choose to run the programs in a certain circumstances(previous versions of Windows). I installed Vista on my MacBook Pro, and it works fine, although the battery life was greatly cut short and my Mac at times made occasional noises. The voice recognition feature of Windows Vista is so far what I enjoy most, better than voice commands in Mac OS X. So, as a Mac fan, I gotta say Windows has indeed evolved.
