Herbal teas work great for me. Go to your local supermarket and look for one called "Gypsy Cold Care." Aside from that, chamomile, peppermint, spearmint, echinacea, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, licorice root, and lemon are all good teas for colds. You might want to try some spicy foods to clear out your nasal passages- chili and hot wings are my favorites.
Also, I've made an applesauce that works wonders. Chop a few apples into really small pieces, and put them in a saucepan with just enough water to cover the pieces. Add plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves (but no sugar!). You can even add raisins, if you like them. Boil it thoroughly until the apples get mushy and some of the water evaporates. You can use a potato masher to make it smoother, or eat it kind of chunky- but the combination of spices is really helpful for a cold, and the fruit is really good for you nutritionally.

Mmmm.. I don't know if I'm getting delirious, because that sounds delicious! I'm thrilled at the fact you added ginger to it.
"I love that stuff!"
Who cares if I'm sick it's a new addition to my cook book. If you don't mind I'm copying and pasting this.
Thanks for the tip.

It may sound silly, but my husband sprays Lysol up into the air & then sucks in really deep through his nose. Lysol kills the rhino virus' on surfaces, so he figures that it kills the rhino virus causing the cold. I have to admit, it seems to work for him. I haven't seen him with a cold that lasted over 2 days. Good Luck to you.

Hey Nell - that sounds like the wildest cold remedy I've ever heard of. Your husband survives it, I'm going to try it the next time...lol :)

I suggest that you take a lot of vitamin C. When you have a cold, taking at least 2,000 mg. (per day) of vitamin C will help you get rid of your cold quicker. Vitamin C is water soluble so what your body doesn't need it will get rid of. :)

I really suggest using a humidifier, in the winter the heater kicks on a lot and that dries the nasal passages, which makes you even more stuffy! I'm not sure where you are, but traditional medicinals tea makes some great stuff, they have a sample package just for colds http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/?title=store+locator can show where you can buy it near you. Hope you get well soon!
