Sunday's at our home is a day of attending church and of rest. We try to renew ourselves Spiritually and try to not break the sabbath. I try to make something simple for dinner. We have church for three hours. It is not over till 1 o clock. By the time we get home, we are starved to death.
The best way to have a nonstressful Sunday is to have dinner ready when you arrive home from church. For this reason, I tend to use my crockpot and my bread machine alot for sunday dinner. I just throw it together when I get up. The house smells so good when we get home from church. Everyone changes clothes and we eat.
This is a great recipe to use for sunday dinner. Soup is always a comfort food and it smells so yummy. I make a fresh loaf of bread in the bread machine also.
Crockpot Potato Soup
6 or 7 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
1 small chopped onion
1 carrot diced
1 stalk celery sliced thinly
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes(optional)
4 cups chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons butter
12 ounces evaporated milk (1 1/2 cups)
chopped chives or parsley for garnish, optional
Put all ingredients except evaporated milk in crockpot.
Cook on low 7 to 9 hours or high 3 to 4 hours.
Stir in milk the last 20-30 minutes.
Serve hot, topped with chives or parsley.
For a different soup, top each serving with shredded cheese and cooked crumbled bacon or bacon bits. I add some cheese to mine when I add the can milk. I use Velveeta (ALDI"s version)I just cut off about an inch of it. LOL sorry I dont know how else to explain

We use our crockpot a lot, too. It is such an easy way to cook, and it is so pleasant to come home and have dinner almost done.

How yummy! Crockpot Potato Soup and home made bread. Great idea and easy to fix. I cook in my crockpot frequently especially when I know that I will be gone for awhile. Thanks for your recipe and have an awesome Sunday of relaxation.

Sounds great village! I have an old potato soup recipe that I got from somewhere, but yours sounds so much better! I will definitely try yours next time I make potato soup (my hubby loves potato soup). Another nice topping when it is served is a dollop of sour cream. Glad to see you include the chives..I love them!

This sounds super delicious!! I'm definately going to have to try this one.
My kids call me the "crock pot queen".
Bob Evans has a baked potato soup that they serve with cheese and bacon on top of it. This sounds very similar! Thanks for sharing!! As always, great post Anne!! Love your new avitar too!!:)

Wonderful sounding recipe! Isn't Aldi's the best! You can go this one just a step farther Annie, and make it Corn Chowder for a quick change. All you have to do is add 1-2 cans of whole kernel corn and 1-2 cans of creamed corn. I also like to throw in a tad to a tad and a half of sour cream just for the fun of it. If it isn't thick enough, mix up some mashed potato flakes with hot water and throw that in. I also love to add bacon bits (not the hard ones). I usually go for the Hormel brand in the bag. Potato Soup and Corn Chowder are my two favorites. ~Donna

OOOOO-thank you!!Sounds yummy. We are trying to chill out more on the Lords day. We go to church in the morning and then at times do other things during the day. I feel we should be together more as family and focusing more on the Lord in the afternoon and evening some too.

I need to get a new crock pot soon. They can make things a lot easier. You can even make breakfast in them.
Hopefully I will get a new one soon.
I am starting to make more bread again from scratch. I have been making bread using sweet potatoes. Then the other day I made some using left over rice, this was good because the rice was not wasted and everyone liked it.

Thank you for a snapshot of your Sunday. One to emulated if possible by us all. The use of the bread machine and the crockpot show how modern appliances can be a useful addition to our lives for comfort and ease. Just as they are all meant to be. Thank you for the recipe also. Another one for my collection.

Oh, I love potatoe soup but always eat it out of a can. This is great for cold Sundays as like you by the time I get home from church I want to spend time with the Lord not spend it in the kitchen. This would be great as I could do most all the prep work the day before and just plug in the pot before leaving for church.
