why dont i lose weight

I have a very serious case of hypothyriodism. I ahve been on medication for 6 weeks and havent lost a kilo. Why is this so as ppl say i shouldv started losing in a week. my thraot also burns alot. I always thought i wa thirsty is that because of my thyriod
