Too skinny models not allowed anymore: what do you think?

With an increasing number of controversial deaths by anoxeric models/aspiring models, members of the fashion industry have taken it upon themselves to change the standards for aspiring models, especially for the runway. This is in line with the growing concern of the public regarding how beauty is now defined by your vital statistics and dress size--the lower, the better.
I'm all for this since the skin-and-bones-equals-beauty mentality is pushing people (mostly young girls) to do the craziest things just to be able to fit in a size 0 dress. This isn't to say that I think people who are naturally thin should be banned from modeling--they shouldn't--I just think that the standards for runway modeling should make way for girls of other sizes other than 0 and 2.
What do you think?

I've been already writing about this here in my lot..this is a problem we are all concerned about...
Of course it is important to raise our attention against anorexia and eating disorders in general...but it is important to pay attention..they're not always giving people the correct information...as it often happens they give us information, too much information but not the right one...
as a doctor I am in charge of people health and I fight against underweighted and overweighted people everyday...
the fact is that there is not a right weight for everybody but a right weight for a person and it is calculated from the body mass index that takes into right account your height and physical comformation...this is to say...
if your 180 cm your weight cannot be 50 ks or even lower but if you 150 cm and your weight is 45 kgs your are simply ok...it is not a problem of sizes...each size is good if it fits you as a healthy people...the problem is that it seems that we are all obliged to be the same...we're different and this is such a beautiful thing...armony makes us beautiful and weight is a personal characteristic not a fashion...there is lot to work on this...believe me!!!

Thanks for the response!
Yes, I am aware about the BMI thing, which is why I said I didn't have anything against people who are naturally thin (and thus, fit for the runway).
I'm just saying that runway standards shouldn't be limited to those who fit the size0 or 2 category, since (exactly like you said), every body is built differently and I think people have got to accept that fact and stop trying to limit the definition of beauty to those who are all skin and bones.

I've wished too, for the longest time that the fashion industry would have realistic models. When the average woman wears a size 12, why are there so many models who are size 2 or 4? We need more realism.

It is not beauty or fashion to have this skinny model represent an industry. It is a terrible message that we perpetuate with the youth of our humanity when we put false and harmful ideals out there as the example of how we should idolize these models.

Skinny can be beautiful as well, but not if it's UNNATURAL. ;)

I think for health reasons, too skinny models in the fashion industry should be banned. From the word itself "MODELS", as they are there to set the trend, they are incorporating in the minds of the young how pretty persons should look like and so that's why the media and the public should watch out for it and as an ordinary citizen we are responsible for our own actions. It is up to us to determine what's healthy and what's not for us.

I was anorexic when I was in my 20s it is not fun. I was never even fat, when I got to a whopping 86 pounds I was put in the hospital and not let out until I got back up to 100 pounds. It is really hard to over come this but I did. I eat anything now and I stopped taking laxatives. It still lingers in my mind though. This is one thing that seems to never go away completely.

As long it's done in a tasteful manner and no one is harmed, why not? :)
