Hi very boring subject i know! would anyone have any ideas what to do with pine wardrobes, chest of drawers and dressing table. They are all in that horrible orangey pine colour, im decorating my room soon and want to do something with them but preferably not paint them. thanks ned

Just try sanding them down and putting a darker stain on them. Or if you'd like to make them look antique, distress them (5-year-old boys are great at this!) and then stain them gradually darker towards the edges of the drawers/doors and in the dents made by the distressing.
Another idea is to glue photos, tiles or wallpaper on them. They don't have to completely cover the wood, just enough to distract the eye from the ugly color. I once used peel and stick tiles left over from a bathroom floor and they looked terrific. A lot of furniture that's fairly modern has no character--just flat doors and drawers--so this effect really gives it character. If you surround the tiles with small molding, it's even better.
