One of my major interests these days in learning to pronounce people's names. I work in a bank that is very close to a college, and many of the students and professors are foreign. I've noticed that when I learn how to say the names of my customers it makes them feel special, and brightens their day. It seems like such a small thing, but it really makes people happy. Does anyone else go out of their way to learn how to pronounce other people's names? How do you feel if someone mispronounces your name? Or if someone you don't know all that well goes out of their way to learn how to pronounce it?

That is such a great thing for you to do. I haven't really thought about it - wait, I guess I have thought about it, and think about it everytime I watch an "away" hockey game! My favourite team is the Ottawa Senators and it really irks me when they play out of town and the announcers get their names wrong!

Thanks for your response! I would have never thought about it myself until I moved to a place with so many people from different cultures. =) Arrrggg... that would have me pretty annoyed to. I'd be like "Get it right! You're getting paid for this!"
