Pranks - ever had one that went terribly wrong?

I was just reading a news story about a high school kid who's prank went terribly wrong. He is now facing charges of felony adulteration resulting in bodily harm, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, and felony adulteration not resulting in bodily harm, with a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. And all of this because he put laxatives in some brownies and served them to some of the students and school staff, causing seven employees and five studnets to suffer symptoms of discomfort, diarrhea, stomach cramps and bloody stools. So, tell me about some pranks that you started, whether they went horribly wrong or not! I'm not a prankster by nature, but it would be fun to hear your stories. Or feel free to simply comment on the above story, if you like! ^_^

Wow. That really is a stiff sentance. I doubt that they will give it all to him though. They are probably doing it to teach him a lesson and will let him off fairly easily. Then again, (if) this is America you never know. The poor kid may get it all. I am not a prankster. I think my sense of humor broke several years ago, so I don't do well with them. My Dad shared one of the senior pranks he pulled though. Him and like six of his friends actually dismantled the principals car and reassembled it on the school roof one night. At least that's his story. The principal had to have all the auto shop students help get it down. My senior year someone stuffed bologna into all the lockers in the school.

Lol, my hubby to be told me that in University, a group of his friend dismantled the car of one of their professors, and reassembled it in the auditorium LOL. Apparently, he and a group of mechanics spent hours dismantling it and putting it back together outside so he could go home LOL.

Have to admit I loathe pranks, and practical jokes, so I don't have any stories for you on this one.I always think there is so much danger of someone getting hurt (either emotionally, or physically), by daft pranks. I know lots of people et fun. and amusement out of them, but I don't find them clever, or funny at all.

Oh Rosie, I really do understand where you're coming from. I feel much the same, because I'm not a person who likes to see others in pain. But I like hearing about harmless pranks sometimes, as long as no one gets seriously hurt. But if you see above where I said that I'm not a prankster myself, that's exactly why. I don't think that anything that makes another person feel bad is a good thing.

Wow I was totally amazed by the stiff sentence he got, if it was in the UK he would probably get let off with a caution! When I was in secondary school a boy in our class had been caught throwing a light bulb out of the window, which resulted in hitting someone in the face, he was given the cane by the headmaster and cautioned by the police, I thought that was bad at the time. I haven't done any bad pranks like that only little tricks like on April Fools day.

Well I think that is an awful Prank anyway. I don't mind Pramks but sometimes they Kick the Butt out of it. I hope this will teach him a Lesson to be very careful what kind of a Prank he pulls.

I think the punishment was too harsh, but what he did isn't funny at all, although we see things like that in some slap stick old comedy movies, and even in some new ones, but if it causes harm, it is not funny right. I'm a bit naughty myself and do pull some pranks to friends and classmates during highschool, but not that will cause harm to others. I remember one time during highschool, the boys are being too rowdy and rude that we planned a revenge. When recess break bell was sounded and everyone went out of the room, I and some female friends lag behind. We quickly got chalks from the teacher's table and crumbled it, then we spread it on the boys chairs and under their desks. Afterwards we went out and go to the canteen, when we returned, the boys were already on their chairs and started teasing us again. We smiled at each other. Imagine their looks when they stood up and found out that their black pants are all covered with chalk dusts, we can't barely control laughing. There were also times that we just hid little things that our classmates owned, just kidding them, we would return them eventually, after they started crying, that is. : ). But one prank I wouldn't forget was during valentines day, still in highschool. Several of my friends went to the love message booth and send a valentine card to one of our peer, we signed the card as from her crush. That time, the messages will be read aloud in front of the classroom. But the joke was on me. After the messages were read, she blushed and just kept quiet. I was surprised when the last message that has been read was dedicated to me, signed from secret admirer. I laughed outloud and face my peers telling them it was very funny, too late did I realize that the whole class, including our teacher was watching me as if I was crazy. And it turned out that it was not from any of my friends, but from another guy I barely know. ; )

I agree that that is way to harsh for something that he thought would be harmless. The only pranks I've pulled have been little ones, such as rearanging kitchen drawers (It's easy if there all the same size) and putting an elastic around that sprayer on the kitchen sink. If you make sure it is pressing the button down, the next person to turn the water on will get wet. (Just make sure your not the next one to turn on the water because it's no fun getting yourself)

I have never played a prank on anyone that went wrong and did not have a prank played on me that went wrong for the other person either. That was a terrible prank for that student to do to the other people and people should take not of this type of prank because it could have caused much worse consequences for both the victims and the guilty party. He is lucky that someone did not die from this incident. That is not the type of prank that I would play on people because of the risks involved.

Too bad for this kid. He probably had no idea how much of an effect this would have on other people. I have prank called people, but we giggled so much I think it was obvious that we were prankcalling.

Wow I have heard of people doing that too. It all starts out with harmless intentions (at least for the most part) but you just never know how it is going to turn out. I can't think of any that have ever caused any harm. My ex's family was full of pranksters but harmless stuff nothing too serious. It's too bad cause this highschool student probably didn't realize. I've heard of the old exlax in the brownies though. That's an old one.

When I was at school I attended a really posh ladies college as a border. Every 4th Sunday was Card Sunday ...the students got to go out for the day departing as early as their behaviour merited..according to the colour card they earned. I nearly always had a purple card which meant I didn't get to go at all-I was grounded. The earliest departing time was 8:30am. We had to attend Sunday Mass and have breakfast before we could leave. Mass was at 7am on Card Sundays. Well, there we all were in the chapel, students and nuns, it was a training convent as well, waiting for the priest to arrive and say Mass. We waited and waited. The students were becoming restless and fidgety after the first hour and pretty soon the nuns were done praying and getting restless too. As it got closer to 8:30 some of the students (the well behaved ones who got to leave early) weren't being so well behaved. Well, he finally turned up and said Mass...no apology, not even an explanation...we could tell our head nun was even ticked off. Mass over, we headed off to brekky, everyone was very loudly saying what a creepo this priest was for being late. We had to pass his parked car on the way to the refectory where we ate. I got some girls to cover me and I took a hair pin out of my mantilla and let 2 of his tyres down to punish him on behalf of my friends. He was pretty angry he must have realised it was us getting even and of course I was grounded for the rest of the term but while I was wandering alone around the very quiet grounds that afternoon I overheard some of the nuns talking and laughing about what I had done. LOL....they were so proud of me.

Wow that sentence does seem a little harsh for a high school kid. I'm not really a prank puller myself, however last year I had a teenager down the road from me pull one on me. In the beginning it was rather funny and I did pass it off as kids having fun, but after awhile it got rather annoying. It started with a call at 1:20 in the morning to my house from an unknown number. We didn't answer the phone as we thought it was a friend of ours who we knew to be drinking that night and figured it was him calling us in his drunken state. The phone rang two more times after that. Anyway, the next day we found it it was a pizza place phoning because the delivery guy was at our house trying to deliver a pizza we had "ordered". We hadn't placed an order, lol. He must have been ringing the doorbell which wasn't connected at the time as we never heard him at the door. Two more times after this we got delivery guys bringing us pizza we had never ordered and several phone calls from different pizza places calling to confirm orders we had supposedly placed. I finally found out which kid was doing it and went down and confronted her. It stopped after probably two months. Really it was kind of funny the first few times but after a few weeks it was definitely starting to get on my nerves (especially the late night calls).

When my father in law was 11 years old, he was hiding in a cupboard from his sister. He heard someone coming and jumped out and yelled "aaaahhhh". He saw it was his Aunty and he watched her fall to the floor and die from a massive heart attack. There was nothing they could do to bring her back. So I guess this is definetely one prank that went really wrong.

I remember back in 3rd year high it was the foundation day of our school so, teachers and students are now equal. We had an awesome time, from sports events to other events that are just pure childish like cops and robbers and water balloon wars. The owner of our school visited us to join the fun but when he was hit by a water balloon his wig flew off and he was drenching wet. We all hated the owner of our shcool because he's what we called a "trust fund kid." When he grew up he just got the money from his parents to establish our school. All of us liked to get even with him so all of our entire school ganged up on him. It was a throwing frenzy for almost an hour till he was fed up and called the securty guards of the school to try and grab the suspects but none were caught because we all had the same notion of not liking him. In the end he expelled 2 of my batchmates and suspended 8 or our teachers. But the Dept. of Education reversed the ruling so everything was back to normal.

I was never really into pranks going up. Once or twice I did stuff, but never caused harm to another person. I do agree that television/movies do have an influential role on kids, but I also think that people use that as an excuse. I believe that by high school they should know right from wrong.

Well the charges are too harsh. C'mon 10 years and 20 g's? That's too much for a prank that went wrong.
