Do we really need health insurance?

As I was reading through my monthly credit card bill statement, my eyes fixed on my health insurance payment and it got me thinking. I pay around $14 a month to make sure that I get something out of this when I get sick. Is it really worth it considering that when you don't get sick for the duration of your plan you get nothing at all? I know we really don't know what is going to happen to us in our day to day existence but this is just a theoretical question.

You're lucky you're only paying $14 per month. My husband and I pay over $300 per month through his job. It would cost us much more than that if we had to pay for it outside his job. As you say, we don't really know what is going to happen to us, and we prefer to be prepared and not have to pay for expensive medical bills if something does happen. I don't know what it costs you for a doctor's visit or a stay in the hospital, but it's very expensive here in the USA.

This is actually what I had in mind when someone offered me the health insurance plan. Sometimes we feel a pinch and we need to tighten our belt and I keep coming back to the amount I set aside for my payment which I could use for other things.

Thanks for the input. I am just asking some opinions from other people to justify my plan of discontinuing my health insurance payments.

i think it should be a must to all to get a health insurance. we just want to be ready anytime we get sick. it's no joke these days to get hospitalized because of high prices of medicines and doctors' fees. by way of the health insurance we need not worry anymore where we get the money to pay the hospital bills. on the other hand, if we don't get sick in the entire year, at least we should be thankful for it, anyway the money we pay may be used by others who were sick that year.

Alright, that's a good point. I won't really be raising this topic up really. Lately, I'm just tight on the budget and needs to reorganize my expenses.
