I have tried downhill skiing only once - that was clearly not my thing.
Cross country skiing I did a lot growing up. We have a cabin in the mountains, and lived right next to lighted cross country tracks. We had to do several hundred kilometers a season in order to get a gold ski-medal, more kilometers the older we got. I felt pressured by school and family to obtaining this medal for a few years. i did my last ski trip 20 years ago. Now I enjoy it best as a spectator sport

I have never tried it yet, but I do not miss at all. I would try the snowboard though. The wintersports are rather expensive amusings,I think. ANd not so simple. You have to buy a ticket just for one sliding, then you have to wait in a long row to go back for another. You spend too much time with only waiting in a row.And you spend too much money for this.
I prefer skating.

I've lived in an area all my life that is 30 minutes from a ski mountain. I tried it once and decided it was not for me! I don't enjoy cold weather much at all. Fortunately, the summers here are great and really nice and hot. So I just hibernate all winter. I have lots of friends who enjoy skiing though!
