I have been working on an afghan. So, the other day a friend of mine came over and he spilled a soda all over my afghan that I was working on. Does anyone know what I can use to get the soda stain out of the yarn? If not I suppose I will finish it up and give it to my friend stain and all as a memory of the fun night we ended up having after that.

Have you tried club soda? That seems to get a lot of stuff out. If it's cotton, it should wash out okay. What colour is the afghan? What type of yarn?

The yarn is worsted, medium 4 by RedHeart. The afghan is dark green, light green and a multi color. I'm about a quarter of the way done with it. I will try the club soda for sure. Would it be safe in the washing machine or would I hand wash it??

Hydrogen Peroxide is another thought. It is used on antique clothing to remove stains, so it shouldn't hurt something new. I've used it on blood stains (straight from the bottle) and also on yellowed pillow cases, mixed with water (and soaked overnight) and it did a great job. If you're not sure if something will hurt, try crocheting a little square of scrap yarn and test whatever cleaner that you're using.

Jo-Ann fabrics have certain small bottles of stain treaters that work quite well, you may want to give one of them a try. DON'T machine dry the yarn until the stain is removed as best as possible or the heat will just 'set' the stain.

Did you get it out? I hope so that is alot of work to lose before you even finish it!! I would think soaking it in cold water might help and then maybe something like Woolite and hand wash it

What kind of yarn are you using? Most acrylic washes up pretty well.

It's typical yarn. I got it at WalMart. Um, oh here is the paper from it. It says Worsted, Medium, 4.
