hey, i was wondering what ya'll pay your kids for allowance. mine are 11 and 7. i give them about 20 a month rite now. i think that they should learn to save up their money if they really want something, so we dont buy them things they want very ofter, they have to save their allowance. i know i will have to go up on this amount as they ger older. so what do ya'll think is a good amount? what do you give your kids and what are their ages?

I have a 9,10 & 16 year old, they aren't given any certain amount a month, they are paid depending on what they do....rooms kept clean,$3.oo a week,dishes,$1.00 a night, pick up after themselves $3.00 a month and so on.....once they get their allowance which usually works out to about $25.oo a month they have to put exactly 1/2 of it into a bank account and the other 1/2 HAS to be spent sensibly.....my 9 year old daughter wanted a phone in her room and she has it,but she has to pay for it too....it's $2.99 plus tax a month so $3.45 goes towards her phone out of her $12.00 that she has left.....it teaches them the benefit of saving money along with responsibility and it does work.....I've been doing this with them since they were 5 and now they tell me when it's time to go to the bank.....I let them do their own banking as well....hope this helps

I think that the 11 year old should get a little more than the 7 rear old. I have a freind that teaches her kids about taxes and tithes. They each get $5 a week and every week 25% goes to pay taxes and they have to take 10% to church to tithe. At the end of the year the kids get their tax money back to buy eachother Christmas presents. Three day a week they do their weekley chores and every month they rotate what they do. I thought this was a great idea. I hope it helps.

when i was watching super nanny she said that her rule was to give allowance by age. so for every year the child is that's how much money he/she would get. 10 years old $10. a week. to me that seems like a lot of money, especially for lower income families. i'm a single mother and i haven't started yet but i think i would do half their age. so 10 years would be $5. i think that's pretty reasonable. it's still $20 a month which is a lot for a young child.
